“Shut up!” Levi snapped, his voice shaking with rage. “Say one more word and I’ll cut out your tongue!”
Amelia had found his weak spot, and she knew it. This was the one thing he could never face—the shame he’d carried for years, something so raw he couldn’t even say it out loud.
And it was all her fault—this woman who had ruined him, made him less than a man in his own eyes.
Seeing Levi lose control, Amelia smirked. “What’s the matter? Did I hit a nerve?” She leaned in, her tone taunting. “If you’re really a man, prove it. Finish what you couldn’t six years ago. Or is it true, Levi? Are you really that useless?”
Her gaze was sharp, full of challenge and contempt.
No man could take that. Levi, blinded by anger, lunged at her and tore open her shirt, his hands rough and desperate.
“I don’t need to sleep with you to destroy you!” he spat.
This was the moment Amelia had been waiting for—the instant he let his guard down.
With her hands tied behind her back, she quietly slipped one free from the rope. As Levi’s twisted face came at her, Amelia swallowed her disgust and rammed the rusty nail she’d hidden straight into his only good eye—just like she had six years ago.
He screamed. The sound echoed off the cave walls, raw and animal.
Hot, filthy blood splattered across Amelia’s face, but she didn’t flinch. Her fingers closed around the knife Levi had dropped. She swung for his throat, but Levi blocked her, the blade sinking deep into his palm.
Howling, Levi ripped the knife out. He grabbed Amelia and threw her across the cave. She slammed into the stone wall, pain crashing through her, leaving her barely able to breathe.
But then she saw Jinx, still locked in the cage. Gritting her teeth, Amelia dragged herself over, snagged the keys from the ground, and unlocked the door.
Jinx was small enough to slip by unnoticed. As Levi raged, she darted out of the cave.
All the fight drained out of Amelia, her body crumpling to the ground. Everything hurt—she had no idea how many bones were broken.
“Levi, neither of us is getting out of here alive. Just tell me the truth. Was it Bianca and Kristen who sent you to Alson Creek to get me?”
Levi sneered, “Even without them, I’d never let you go.”
That was all Amelia needed to hear—Bianca and her daughter were behind this.
She watched Levi, now completely blind, groping his way toward her. She tried to stand, but her body just wouldn’t move.
