Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 544

When Ryan reached for her again, Amelia instinctively stepped back—just half a step before she realized what she was doing and abruptly stopped herself.

She caught the look in Ryan’s eyes as something inside him seemed to shatter. His hand, suspended awkwardly in the air, dropped to his side in defeat.

George’s words came rushing back to her, sharp and unforgiving. “If Ms. Sadinton knew who you really were, what would she think of you?”

If Amelia ever found out what it took for him to become the man standing here now, that flicker of fear in her eyes would only multiply, a hundred times over.

Ryan’s pale fingers curled into a fist before falling to his side. He studied her for a second, his lips twitching into a faint smile, his voice smooth and steady. “Are you scared of me?”

Amelia’s throat tightened. She wanted to say something, to explain herself, but she couldn’t deny it: in that split second, she really had been afraid of him.

He was hurt, badly, but he’d still managed to take down a big, dangerous man—and not just take him down, but do it in a way that bordered on brutal.

But this wasn’t the time to get lost in those feelings.

Amelia hurried out of the kitchen, moving quickly through the cramped house, checking every room. Thankfully, aside from the wounded man still out cold on the bed, the place was empty. Big Mike and his girlfriend were gone.

The gun was gone, too.

Ryan leaned against the kitchen doorway, balancing on his good leg, his back against the rough wall. He watched as Amelia did a full sweep of the house.

“When did Big Mike and his girlfriend leave? Where did they go?” Amelia asked, her tone sharp. Sweat dotted her forehead.

Ryan answered without hesitation. “They left at sunrise. Said they had to take care of something. Left the bald guy behind to deal with us before they got back.”

Amelia went silent.

Ryan continued, his voice almost too calm. “I didn’t want him waking you up, so I handled it first.”

He said it like it was nothing, as if taking out another person was just another item on his to-do list.

That’s when it hit her—Ryan’s priorities were completely out of whack. To him, making sure she got some sleep was more important than the fact he’d nearly killed someone.

And then, as if nothing had happened, he’d made her a bowl of noodles.

Amelia’s thoughts tangled up, a storm of feelings brewing under the surface.

She wiped it off, then headed back inside. She woke the wounded man, pressing the knife to his throat and forcing him into the yard.

She grabbed some rope and tied the two men together, back to back.

The wounded man blinked, still out of it, and coughed weakly. “Who are you people? I’m innocent… I never did anything. It was all them, they made me—”

Amelia snorted. “Drop the act. I’ve seen your wanted poster. Of the three of you, your bounty’s the highest—six hundred grand.”

His expression shifted instantly, the fake innocence replaced by pure malice.

“You bitch, you—”

He didn’t get to finish. Ryan slammed him in the mouth with a stick, hard enough to make blood spill down his chin. The man doubled over, pain and fury blazing in his eyes.

“Watch your mouth,” Ryan said coldly, his voice low and dangerous.

Amelia didn’t stop him. She waited until Ryan was done, then gagged the man and blindfolded him, tying the cloth tight.
