Meanwhile, Amelia had almost finished restoring everything on her phone. As soon as she logged into her messages, her notifications blew up—everyone was checking in, asking if she was okay.

She had a private group chat with Robert, Susie, and Greg—her close friends from grad school.

She sent a quick message to let them know she was safe.

Robert called her right away. “Are you alright? Did you get hurt?”

“I’m fine. Just some minor scrapes. I’ll be out of the hospital by this afternoon.”

Robert finally sounded like he could breathe again. “Good. Just focus on resting. Don’t worry about the Green Wall project. You already handled the hardest parts, and everything’s moving along smoothly. With Susie managing things, you don’t need to stress.”

“Thanks. I actually have something important to deal with these next couple of days, so I really appreciate you and Susie covering for me.”

“Something important?” Robert’s tone shifted—suddenly all serious. “Tell me this isn’t about Clive.”

Normally, Robert was the calm and patient type. But the second Clive came up, his mood tanked.

He gave her a no-nonsense warning. “Amelia, if you even think about getting back with Clive, I swear, I’m dragging you with me to that secret project next week. They’re letting us bring one grad student, and I’ll make sure it’s you.”

Amelia couldn’t help but laugh.
