Belle listened to Cameron and Amelia arguing and immediately got the whole picture.
“Cameron Henson, right? Tell me, are you blind or just plain clueless?” Belle shot back, pointing straight at Cameron. “Amelia’s my friend. I asked her to come to the hospital to donate blood for my sister-in-law. This has nothing to do with Clive, so stop dragging him into it.”
“She’s had every single checkup and appointment at your hospital since the start of her pregnancy. This morning, she was rushed into surgery—complications, massive blood loss, she needed an urgent transfusion. But her blood type is extremely rare, RH negative. Amelia is the only person I know who matches. That’s why I begged her to come help!”
Michael’s expression changed instantly when he heard that. He stared at Amelia, completely stunned.
“You’re… RH negative? No way. That’s impossible!” He looked over at Cameron, who looked just as shaken.
Back in college, they’d accidentally seen Amelia’s medical report from Clive’s files—she was listed as regular O type. Nothing unusual, nothing rare. So how could she suddenly have a rare blood type?
Amelia met their shocked faces with a look of total disbelief.
Maybe other people didn’t know, but as Clive’s childhood friends, Cameron and Michael definitely knew Clive was RH negative. If she didn’t have the same blood type, how could she have donated so much blood to save Clive after his car accident in college? She nearly fainted from it back then, she’d given so much.
Now, these two were acting like this was some huge revelation?
“Let’s go, Belle,” Amelia said, linking her arm with Belle’s. “No point talking to people who never listen.”
Cameron and Michael just stood there, frozen.
“Cameron, if Amelia really is RH negative…” Michael swallowed hard, hesitating. “Then who actually saved Clive back then? Was it Kristen, or Amelia?”
“It couldn’t have been Amelia! She’s lying, she always is. She’ll do anything to get close to Clive!” Cameron was desperate. He stopped a nurse who happened to be passing by. “The woman with the hemorrhage today—what’s her blood type?”
Everyone in the hospital knew about the emergency—the blood bank had been turned upside down looking for a match.
The nurse recognized Cameron immediately. Even though his grip hurt, she forced a tired smile. “Mr. Henson, the patient is RH negative. The blood bank was nearly empty, and we had to bring blood in from other hospitals, but it still wasn’t enough. Thankfully, a Ms. Sadinton arrived just in time and donated. Mother and baby are both safe now, thanks to her.”
Cameron let go as if his hand had been burned. He felt like ants were crawling under his skin, every nerve on fire.
