Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 625

Amelia didn’t say another word. She just headed straight into the classroom.

Clive watched her go, a wave of helplessness settling over him. When he saw Kristen walking over with Penny in her arms, his frustration spiked—he could barely keep himself from exploding.

Kristen hugged Penny tightly, using her almost like a shield. As long as Penny was there, she knew Clive wouldn’t start a scene.

“Clive, I—”

He yanked Penny out of Kristen’s arms, barely keeping his anger in check. “Penny, go inside. The adults need to talk.”

Penny looked unsure, dragging her feet. “Daddy…”

“Now, Penny,” Clive said, his tone stern.

She shrank back at his tone, her shoulders drooping. “Okay… Momma Kristen, you and Daddy better hurry, okay? Our group’s up soon.”

Once Penny disappeared inside, Clive grabbed Kristen’s arm and pulled her into an empty stairwell.

He was furious. “Kristen, what part of ‘leave Alson Creek’ did you not understand? How dare you show up at Penny’s school?”

Kristen’s eyes were shining with unshed tears. “Clive, I know you hate me for lying to you. But my feelings for you—and for Penny—are real. I was going to leave, I swear, but I promised Penny I’d come to her family day. I don’t want to break my promise to her…”

Once, her tears would have softened him. Now, seeing her look so helpless only made him sick.

“What right do you have to show up at Penny’s family day?” Clive’s voice was icy. He pressed her up against the wall, his hand wrapping around her neck. “Let’s be real, Kristen. You’re just the other woman. The one who hides in the shadows.”

Kristen didn’t even try to fight back. Instead, gasping, she reached up and held his wrist.

“I’m the other woman, sure. But I’m your other woman, Clive.” Her smile was twisted, almost broken. “If you hadn’t let it happen, if you hadn’t wanted me, how could I have ever ended up in your bed? How could Penny have ever called me ‘Mommy’?”

“Shut up!” Clive snapped.

The tighter he squeezed, the more unhinged her laughter became. Tears slipped from the corners of her eyes.

“Clive… we were both in this together…”

“You—” Clive’s chest heaved. For a split second, he really wanted to hurt her.

“Penny’s father?” Ms. Arnold’s voice cut through the tension. Clive immediately let go. The teacher had walked in on them—Clive still shaking with anger, Kristen smiling through her tears. The whole thing looked downright disturbing.

Ms. Arnold looked awkward. “Um, Penny’s group is up next. She’s looking for you.”

Before Clive could respond, Kristen beat him to it. “Thank you, Ms. Arnold. We’re done here. We’ll be right there.”

Jinx’s eyes went wide. “Wow, is Uncle Felix a superhero?”

Amelia laughed. “Something like that. He’s pretty amazing.”

Their cozy moment didn’t go unnoticed. Across the room, Penny watched, her face drawn and a little sour.

Just then, Kristen and Clive walked in.

“Momma Kristen! Daddy!” Penny called out loudly, racing over to grab both of their hands—one in each of hers, playing up the picture of a perfect family.

Hmph. I have a mom and a dad, and tons of people love me. I’m way better off than Jinx, that little orphan.

Amelia watched as Kristen boldly took the seat next to Penny. The other parents greeted her naturally as “Penny’s mom,” and Kristen just smiled, acting like she belonged.

Amelia’s eyes cooled. So Clive still really loves Kristen, huh?

It was time for Jinx and Penny’s group to play musical chairs. Right before the game started, Penny whispered something to the other kids in their group.

The music started. Seven kids circled six chairs. As soon as the music stopped, they all dove for a seat.

Just as Jinx was about to sit down, a child behind her gave her a hard shove. She crashed to the floor.
