Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 628

Amelia crossed her arms and eyed the two in front of her, one tall and one small. “So, did you two plan this together and just forget to tell me?”

She honestly hadn’t realized Timmy and Ryan were already this close.

“Mom, don’t be mad. We wanted to surprise you!” Timmy was getting really good at acting cute. He blinked his big, puppy-dog eyes at her, his lashes fluttering, and honestly, it was impossible to stay mad.

Amelia tried to keep a stern face, but she just couldn’t pull it off.

Jinx was standing off to the side, her little face full of envy. She was too young to hide what she was feeling.

Amelia noticed right away and changed the subject with a gentle smile. “Jinx, I bet Uncle Ryan can win your favorite doll back for you.”

Jinx nodded, her eyes lighting up. “He will.”

The game paired up families by drawing colored ribbons. Whoever got the same color would go head-to-head.

Jinx grabbed Ryan’s hand and led him to Ms. Arnold to pick their ribbon. Amelia watched them walk away, the sight of the little girl and the tall man hand in hand filling her with a warmth she couldn’t quite explain. She ended up snapping a photo with her phone, unable to resist.

Not far away, Clive was standing in the corner, his gaze dark as he took in their happy little group. Bitterness crawled up his throat, leaving a taste so sour it felt like he’d swallowed a lemon whole.

“Daddy…” Penny tugged on his hand, glancing around. “Where’s Momma Kristen?”

“She probably left already,” Clive answered, barely bothering to hide his annoyance.

“Why would she do that…” Penny was already upset, and now her face completely fell.

Honestly, he couldn’t care less about Kristen. She could stay in that bathroom forever for all he cared. If she hadn’t barged in, Amelia wouldn’t be acting so cold, and she wouldn’t be hanging around Ryan just to get under his skin.

“Daddy, is that man… her new husband?” Penny asked, still refusing to call Amelia “Mom” as she watched her being so sweet to Jinx.

Clive knew exactly who she meant. “No,” he said firmly. “Your mom is just sad about the divorce, so she’s spending time with someone who makes her feel better for now.”

He crouched down in front of Penny. “Remember when you first started preschool? You missed me so much you brought your doll to class with you. But did that little doll ever really replace Daddy?”

“No! Never!” Penny shook her head hard. There was no way a doll could ever take her dad’s place.

Clive smiled. “Exactly. So how could that man ever take my place in your mom’s heart?”

Penny stared at him, still a little confused.

Did that mean her mom and dad might get back together?

She glanced over at Amelia, just as Amelia looked her way. Their eyes met for a second, and Penny couldn’t help it—she gave a tiny wave before quickly looking away, embarrassed.

Ms. Arnold gasped. “What are the odds?”

“Huh?” Clive frowned, not understanding. But the answer became obvious a second later.

Out in the game area, two circles had been drawn on the grass with black paint. Ryan was already standing in one of them, holding a black ribbon.

Clive’s jaw clenched. Of course. Just his luck.

Meanwhile, across the field, a very disheveled Kristen was finally let out of the bathroom by the cleaning lady.

She stank so badly that even the janitor had to hold her nose and avoid her.

Kristen was furious. She looked down from the building and saw Amelia and Clive facing each other. Jealousy twisted her features. Those two, standing together—how dare they!

That bitch, Amelia. Pretending to be upset for Penny, but all she really wanted was to get Clive back.

“Just wait, Amelia! I’m not done with you!”

But in her current state, there was no way she could go out there. She thought about calling Cameron, but didn’t want him to see her like this. After some thought, she called her sidekick Lena instead.

“Lena, bring me some clean clothes and pick me up. Right now. Yes, I mean it!”
