Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 639

When Amelia got to Wutong Court, the front door was left slightly open just for her. She stepped inside, crossed the living room, and spotted Ryan’s tall figure in the kitchen, cooking.

He wore a soft white sweater, the kind you’d want to run your hands over, his dark hair a sharp contrast. Amelia walked up quietly and slipped her arms around his waist from behind. Ryan had already heard her coming, but let her get close anyway. The only sign he’d noticed was that tiny pause as her arms wrapped around him.

“Careful, I’m using a knife,” he said, his voice low and warm with the kind of indulgence that made her heart ache.

Amelia just mumbled an “okay,” pressing her face into his broad back, holding him even tighter.

He could tell something was off. He set the knife aside. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” She shook her head. “Just tired.”

“Work stuff?” he asked.

She didn’t answer, and he took that as a yes.

“Take a break for a few days. If you need, I can talk to your boss at the base.” He was already drying his hands, reaching for his phone.

Amelia knew just one call from him could get her all the time off she wanted. She quickly stopped him, hugging his arm, a little desperate.

“Just seeing you is enough,” she said.

She wasn’t usually the type to be sweet, so when she tried, it was almost too much. Even knowing she was fibbing, Ryan just let it go.

He looked down at her, his eyes so dark and deep it felt like he could see right through her.

Suddenly nervous, Amelia backed up until the smooth edge of the kitchen island pressed against her. Ryan leaned in, hands braced on either side, caging her in.

Up close, she could smell his laundry detergent—clean, crisp, a little cool.

“Is just looking at me really enough?” he teased, mouth quirking into a crooked smile, mischief in his eyes.

Honestly, he hadn’t changed a bit since college.

Before she realized it, her hand had drifted up, gently tracing his lips.

When did you come back? she wondered, but didn’t say.

Lost in thought, she missed the way his gaze darkened, like he was drawing her in.

“What’s on your mind?” he asked, his voice slow and deep as he caught her hand, his breath warm against her fingertips.

Suddenly, she was right there in the moment—he was so close, almost kissing her skin.

His throat tightened. “Yeah?”

He didn’t tell her, but just hearing his name on her lips was enough to undo him.

He stroked her hair, fingertips trailing down her back, feeling her shiver beneath his touch. Patient as ever, he was the hunter, and she was falling right into his arms.

“Amelia, you can still say no,” he whispered.

She loosened her grip for a split second. Ryan tensed, the warmth in his eyes fading—until she lifted his face and kissed him.

His pupils went dark as night. He scooped her up and carried her upstairs.

Time blurred. When Amelia finally found her voice again, it was hoarse. She kicked his shoulder, half-laughing, half-whining.

“Ryan!”

The way she said his name made him grin.

“I’m here,” he murmured, catching her ankle and pressing a kiss to it, like he couldn’t get enough.

Eventually, Amelia drifted into a hazy sleep, only to wake up later, honestly starving.
