Greg only really knew Clive—Cameron barely registered for him, but one look at the way Cameron spoke to Amelia and he was done playing nice. He stepped forward, voice sharp.
“Mr. Henson, right? Just so we’re clear, Amelia isn’t just someone Dr. Wade recommended. Your family begged for her to consult—multiple times, actually.”
Cameron’s lips curled in a mocking smile. “Wow, Ms. Sadinton must be pretty important, huh?”
The sarcasm made Greg bristle. “You—”
“Greg.” Amelia’s hand landed lightly on his arm, stopping him. She looked straight at Cameron, still sitting in his car. “Mr. Henson, if you want to work together, let’s keep it professional. If this is the attitude you’re bringing, I don’t see the point in wasting our time.”
Cameron’s expression turned cold, just as his phone rang. He picked up. “Dad...”
He listened, glancing at Amelia. “Yeah, I met her...”
Amelia didn’t bother sticking around. She shot Greg a look, and the two of them turned to leave.
Cameron grumbled into his phone, “Dad, can’t we get another consultant—?”
His father cut him off, voice booming even through the phone. “Absolutely not! Do you know how hard I had to push Dr. Wade to get the best expert? If you can’t land Amelia, don’t bother coming home!”
“Dad—” Click. Call ended.
Cameron clenched his phone, glaring at Amelia’s retreating back. After a moment of silent fuming, he finally shoved open the door and hurried after her.
“Amelia!”
She didn’t even pause, so Cameron strode ahead and blocked her path.
Greg stepped right up. “What’s your problem?”
Cameron’s face was tight with frustration, but he finally dropped his pride. “Ms. Sadinton, my attitude earlier was out of line. I’m sorry. I’m here on behalf of Genesis Biomedical Technologies to invite you for a tour and, hopefully, a partnership.”
For Dr. Wade’s sake, Amelia decided to let it slide. She walked over to the car and glanced at Cameron, waiting.
Amelia: [Yeah.]
Ryan: [I’ll just come by and pick you up after work.]
Amelia smiled at her phone, typed out a quick “Okay,” and after a second, added a heart emoji.
Up front, Cameron sulked, watching Amelia smile at her screen in the rearview mirror. He remembered Clive asking about Ryan, saying Amelia was with him now. This woman sure had skills. In no time, she’d landed a high-profile guy like Ryan, and apparently Clive was still hung up on her.
He snorted quietly and looked out the window.
They pulled up in front of Genesis Biomedical’s main building. Cameron led the way, Greg and Amelia trailing behind. Greg leaned close and whispered, “If you don’t want to deal with this Cameron guy, just say the word. Dr. Wade will understand.”
“It’s fine.” Amelia patted his shoulder. “This is just work. I can handle it.”
Cameron was already at the elevator with two execs, one pressing the button and the other holding the door. Just as Cameron was about to step inside, he paused, then backed up and let Amelia go first.
