Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 10

Chapter 10

“Ugh, just my luck running into these clowns,” Eowyn muttered, rolling her eyes.

Zoya smirked. “Just act like they’re invisible.”

No dice–Nicolas and Jasmine clocked her immediately.

Nicolas rode over, reining in his horse right in front of Zoya, his face all pinched. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Zoya gave him a frosty grin. “I could ask you the same. So this is your big ‘emergency meeting,’ huh?”

A flicker of guilt darted across Nicolas’s face.

Eowyn snorted. “What, holding your meetings in the stables now? Next one’s in a motel, I bet.”

Nicolas’s face darkened. “Keep running your mouth, Eowyn, and I don’t care if you’re Zoya’s buddy–you’ll be sorry.”

“Oh, please, try me!” Eowyn shot back, jutting her chin out like she was itching for a fight.

His glare got uglier.

Zoya stepped in front of her friend, eyes blazing. “Nicolas, you even think about touching her, and I’ll make sure the whole town knows you’re sneaking around with Jasmine.”

“You wouldn’t dare,” he growled.

“Wanna find out?” Zoya fired back.

She knew he’d dropped serious cash to bury those cheating rumors about him and Jasmine. No way he wanted that mess stirred up again.

Just then, Jasmine trotted up, looking down at Zoya from her saddle like she was hot stuff. “What’s this, stooping to dirty tricks? Clinging to guys, trashing other women–think that’ll win Nicolas back?”

Eowyn was ready to unload, but Zoya grabbed her arm and faced Jasmine. “You’re out here messing with a married guy and I’m the sleazy one? That’s a laugh.”

“Love’s not a crime,” Jasmine said, all high and mighty. “Three years, and you couldn’t get Nicolas to give a damn. Maybe you’re just not cutting it,

“But then, a woman like you wouldn’t get it–strong, independent women who ride hard and live free? That’s what men

want.”

With that, Jasmine kicked her horse into a full–on gallop, and the crowd at the stables started clapping like she was some kind of cowgirl queen.

Nicolas watched her go, practically swooning, before turning to Zoya. “Jasmine doesn’t sweat the petty stuff like you do, Zoya. Stop being jealous and quit tailing me.”

Then he took off after Jasmine.

Zoya stood there, stunned. ‘He thinks I’m here to stalk him?‘

Eowyn’s perfectly made–up face twisted with fury. “Can you believe the nerve of those two? Tailing him? Tailing my ass!”

“Let it go,” Zoya said, keeping her cool. “Once the divorce is done, they can do whatever. I’m out.”

“But it’s so damn infuriating!” Eowyn fumed. “And Jasmine, acting like she’s all that ‘cause she can ride a horse or fly a plane. Big whoop!

“You were in special forces, Zoya. You flew fighter jets. She’s nothing next to you, strutting around like she’s the queen bee.”

She glanced at Nicolas. “Don’t worry, I’ll get my uncle to introduce you to Mr. Richmond.”

Jasmine’s smile faltered, clearly stung.

Nicolas jumped in, all smooth. “Mr. Richmond, you must meet a ton of folks. But I’ll never forget how you handled that armed guy at the restaurant–cool as ice, taking him down like it was nothing.”

He was laying it on thick, but Wren just gave a curt nod, barely interested.

Zoya and Eowyn walked up, and Nicolas’s face soured when he saw Zoya actually heading for Wren.

“Mr. Richmond, hi,” Eowyn said, all confidence. “I’m Eowyn Sanford from Bluesky Tech. We’re doing some killer work with drones and have a solid rep. If you’re interested, we’d love to talk anytime.”

After all, with someone like Wren, who played his cards close to the chest, beating around the bush was a waste of time. Better to just lay it all out.

Wren’s eyes landed on Zoya. “Ms. Lucero, didn’t expect to run into you here.”

Zoya flashed a tight grin. “Yeah, small world, huh?”

“What brings you out?” Wren asked, one eyebrow raised.

“I’m with Bluesky Tech, here with Ms. Sanford,” Zoya said.

Eowyn’s face lit up–Zoya was all in.

“Yup! Zoya’s our drone expert and a total rockstar. She’s gonna be a game–changer for us,” she exclaimed.

Nicolas’s scowl deepened. “Zoya, cut the crap. This isn’t the place for your games.”

He turned to Wren. “Mr. Richmond, sorry about this. Zoya used to work for me but quit recently. She’s no drone expert- just a regular employee.”
