Chapter 170
Jasmine thought, What the hell?
Her face instantly went white as a ghost.
Jasmine thought, Is Wren seriously thinking of tossing me in the river?
No way. I can’t let that happen.
If he really tosses me in…
Cold sweat kept streaming down Jasmine’s back.
“No. Let go of me!” Jasmine yelled, thrashing desperately as she clawed at Wren’s fingers locked around her neck.
But her efforts were pointless. She couldn’t pry even one of his fingers loose.
Wren wrapped his long and defined fingers around her throat, but he didn’t try to suffocate her. Jasmine could feel her body slowly being pushed out of the dam’s railing.
If she toppled over, she’d plunge straight into the raging river below.
Out of the corner of her eye, Jasmine glimpsed the churning river. She might know how to swim, but with those savage waves, there was no way her skills would save her now.
“Nicolas, help me!” Jasmine called out desperately, her eyes pleading for his rescue.
Nicolas’s gaze was full of conflicting emotions as he looked at Jasmine, whose face was as pale as death. His heart was a whirlwind of uncertainty.
‘The truth from back then… Nicolas thought.
“Nicolas, you believe me, right? You said you’d trust me!” Jasmine yelled, her voice shaking with emotion.
Nicolas shouted, “Wren, just let Jasmine go. Who saved me back then is none of your business. But if you really shove her into the river and something happens to her, you will be thrown in jail!”
Wren scoffed, “You think this has nothing to do with me? My girlfriend was called a liar, and you want me to sit back and do nothing?
“I’m here to prove Zoya is not lying. After Jasmine actually falls into the river, you will see if I’ll end up in jail like you think.”
“You’re completely nuts!” Nicolas snapped.
He tried to rush forward to save Jasmine, but Wren’s two bodyguards had him pinned down, making it impossible for him to move.
Wren smirked and thought, ‘Nuts? People have always called the Richmond family nuts anyway.
‘Even if I am nuts, I’d only do it for Zoya‘
By then, Jasmine was already halfway over the railing, her body teetering on the edge.
All it would take was for Wren to loosen his grip, and she’d plunge straight into the river.
Nicolas could only shoot a desperate look at Zoya. “Zoya, please, do something. If Jasmine really falls, I’ll never forgive…”
Zoya gave him a mocking stare. “You will never forgive me? You’ve worn that line out. I’m sick of hearing it. Nicolas, who do you think you are? Why should I care whether you forgive me?”
“I…” Nicolas stammered, completely at a loss.
“When we were married, I cared about your opinion because I chose you to be my husband. But now, you’re nothing to me,” Zoya said coldly.
Nicolas felt a deep chill crawling through his whole body. The way Zoya looked at him was detached and full of disgust.
Zoya said, “If you’re convinced Jasmine saved you, why not let her prove it right here and now? The river’s calmer today than it was back then.
“If she could drag you out after you’d gotten stabbed eight times, swimming to shore now should be a piece of cake, shouldn’t it?”
Nicolas fell silent.
Standing next to Zoya, Eowyn said, “Ms Ingram, since you rescued Nicolas after he was severely injured, you must be a swimming legend. Can’t wait to see you put those skills to the test!”
Jasmine’s face flushed red, then went pale in an instant.
Back when people called her Ms. Ingram, it was always with admiration and respect. She absolutely loved it then.
But now that she’d been fired, hearing that title was like a painful reminder. It stung more than ever.
“Enough crap. If you’re gonna throw her in, just get on with it and spare us the drama,” Harvey snapped, his impatience all too obvious.
“You’re right. There is no need for all this nonsense,” Wren replied with a wicked grin. In a flash, he loosened his grip.
Jasmine shrieked, “No. If I fall in, I’m going to die. I swear, I’ll die.
“I didn’t save Nicolas. When I found him, he’d already been pulled out of the water. The ambulance just happened to arrive, and the paramedics thought I was the one who rescued him. That’s how I ended up at the hospital…”

Driven by pure fear of dying. Jasmine started telling the truth, desperate to keep herself from being thrown into the surging river below.
In the very next second, Wren flung Jasmine to the side. Her legs buckled and she crumpled to the ground, unable to stand.
Nicolas stood there, utterly shell–shocked, barely able to process what he’d just heard.
Nicolas thought, ‘How could this happen? So Jasmine really lied about saving me?‘
When Paul told him Jasmine had brokered a deal for 15 million dollars, he’d already sensed something was off. However, deep down, he couldn’t bring himself to face that reality.
Now, with Jasmine’s words tearing through what remained of his hope, Nicolas had no choice but to confront a truth so brutal he never dared to imagine it.
‘If Jasmine wasn’t the one who saved me, then who was it?‘ Nicolas wondered.
He couldn’t help but look over at Zoya.
She stood there by the river, her long hair whipping in the wind, back straight and shoulders squared. There was a fierce, almost heroic look in her eyes that made her seem unyielding.
‘How could I have ever thought that she would lie to me?‘ Nicolas thought.
Nicolas’s eyes suddenly grew red, tears threatening to spill.
“Was it you?” Nicolas murmured as he moved closer to Zoya. He was terrified, but for some reason, he just couldn’t force himself to stop.
Every rational thought was begging him to drop this and pretend none of it ever happened. He felt that he might be hurt less that way.
But his instincts drove him toward Zoya and urged him to ask the question he’d been running from.
Before he could even get close to Zoya, Harvey stepped in and kicked him hard, knocking him straight to the ground.
“Nicolas, you’re not even worthy to get close to Zoya!” Harvey said.
Nicolas clutched his chest, struggling to his feet, coughing painfully. But even as he gasped for air, his eyes stayed locked on Zoya. “Zoya, just tell me, was it you? Did you save me from the river back then?”
“Oh, look at you, Nicolas. You are finally asking this question now? Weren’t you swearing that it was Jasmine who saved you just now?” Eowyn sneered with sarcasm.
Nicolas’s face was twisted in agony, but he didn’t care about Eowyn’s taunts. His eyes were glued to Zoya, burning with desperation. “Was it you? Just answer me, please!”
Zoya looked at Nicolas with pure frost in her eyes. “Does it even matter? Whether it was me or not, Jasmine was never the one who saved you. Your trust in her was simply a joke.”
Wren walked over to Zoya. “So, what do you want to do with Jasmine?”
“Hand her over to the cops and give them everything they need to lock her up,” Zoya said coldly.
“Got it!” Wren replied while shooting a look at his guys. They immediately hauled Jasmine to her feet.
“No, what are you doing? I don’t want to go to the police. Let me go. I didn’t do anything wrong. I swear!” Jasmine cried while thrashing wildly.
She said, “Nicolas, help me!”
But Nicolas was frozen in place. His expression was twisted with a mess of emotions as he looked at Jasmine.
Jasmine’s stomach dropped. Nicolas would fight for her no matter what in the past. However, he didn’t say anything at that moment.
He didn’t even move slightly.
‘So, is it just because I wasn’t the one who saved him back then?‘ Jasmine wondered.
