It was only now that Nicolas truly understood what Jasmine’s sudden admission about being pregnant really
meant.
Nicolas wondered, ‘Is there really no way for things between me and Jasmine to end?
Is it all just because she’s pregnant?‘
Eowyn sneered with contempt, “Oh, this is just hilarious. Nicolas, congrats. Guess you’re gonna be a dad now.
“When you and that shameless homewrecker finally have your wedding, don’t forget to send me an invite. I’ll make sure to bring you a big present you’ll never forget.”
Nicolas was frozen, feeling like he’d just been plunged into an icy abyss.
He thought, ‘How the hell does Jasmine get pregnant so soon? We have only hooked up a handful of times.
“Let’s go,” Zoya said, snapping Nicolas back to his senses.
Just as Zoya was about to leave, Nicolas dashed forward. “Zoya, wait. I—”
But in the blink of an eye, one of Wren’s bodyguards closed in, blocking Nicolas off completely. Nicolas could not get close to Zoya anymore.
“Let’s go,” Wren said, taking Zoya’s hand and leading her straight out of the police station without a second glance.
Harvey’s brows drew together in concern as he silently trailed after them.
Eowyn shot Nicolas a look of pure disdain.
She said, “How do you still have the nerve to bother Zoya, Nicolas? You and Jasmine are perfect for each other. You plotted against Zoya, soaked up everything she gave you, and then shamelessly handed the fortune she earned straight to Jasmine.
“You did this under the excuse of paying back your lifesaver. It’s ironic that you are getting played by your savior. Karma’s got a wicked sense of humor, don’t you think?”
After dropping her barb, Eowyn couldn’t be bothered with the sight of Nicolas and Jasmine any longer. She rolled her eyes and strutted out of the police station.
Inside the police station, Nicolas stared at Jasmine, noting the designer clothes and sparkling jewelry she wore. They were all paid for by him.
He thought, ‘Just like Eowyn said, Zoya has helped me establish my wealth.
‘I have never realized just how crucial Zoya was to my success.
‘But after she left the company, everything spiraled into chaos. Even the 15 million dollars I managed to
borrow was stolen by Jasmine.’
Just thinking about that, Nicolas felt that his expression
probably than Jasmine’s at that moment.
As the cops moved in to escort Jasmine to the interrogation room, she suddenly screamed at Nicolas, “Nicolas, I’m carrying your child. You can’t just walk away and leave me like this!”
Nicolas’s gaze was fixed hard on Jasmine. No matter how loudly she pleaded, he just kept silent.
It wasn’t until Jasmine was pushed through the door that Nicolas finally wavered. He slumped and hung his head low as he let out a bitter laugh.
His anguished laughter sounded less like real amusement and more like ruthless mockery at his own expense for everything he’d done.

After they left the police station, Zoya and her group grabbed a table at a nearby restaurant.
“So what are you gonna do next?” Eowyn asked.
Zoya said, “I’m still waiting for word from the military. They found my brother’s old drone. From the last video on it, they’re pretty sure he disappeared in that fire. Now they’re checking the list of people who got injured or…”
Zoya bit her lip. She just couldn’t say “died.”
It felt like saying it would make her brother really gone.
“Yeah, the military’s way faster than anyone else when it comes to this stuff,” Eowyn said.
There was plenty of classified stuff that only the military could look into.
“So what if the military comes up empty?” Eowyn asked, her tone full of concern.
“If that happens, I’ll just head out to the border again and search for my brother,” Zoya replied.
Eowyn let out a sigh. Oscar had been missing for five years now, and Zoya had already made three trips out to the border to look for him.
“I’ll go with you,” Eowyn said firmly.
Zoya said, “No need. I can’t even guess how long I’ll be gone, and you’ve got a whole company to take care of. I only just joined you, and now I’m thinking of leaving to look for my brother. I’m afraid I won’t be able to help much with your company,”
Eowyn said, “That’s nothing. Your brother is way more importan. Honestly, I’m the one getting the sweet deal out of this, thanks to all the ideas and plans you’ve brought in. I’m just worried about you going out there
alone. It isn’t safe.”
Even though Eowyn knew Zoya could totally hold her own, the border was occupied with all kinds of people.

Things could go sideways in a second.
“I’m going with her. There’s nothing to worry about,” Wren
red.
Zoya was thrown off for a moment. “I can do this alone. I mean, I have no clue how long I’ll be out there.”
Wren said, “I’ve already said if you’re heading for the border to look for your brother, I’ll come with you, for as long as it takes. You really think I’d let my girlfriend just wander off to a place like that all by herself?”
Zoya just stared at him, totally speechless for a second.
Wren gently lifted Zoya’s hand, his grip both tender and possessive. “Or do you actually think I could tolerate being away from you for even a moment?”
His fingertips lightly grazed her palm, the touch brimming with playful intimacy.
Zoya’s cheeks reddened at once. ‘Eowyn and Harvey are still sitting right here!‘ she thought.
Eowyn smirked teasingly. “Well, Zoya, knowing Mr. Richmond’s going with you, I can finally rest easy.”
Right then, Harvey poured two drinks and handed one to Zoya. “Zoya, now that we’ve finally figured out why Oscar went missing all those years ago, I know we’ll find him soon. Come on, we should celebrate!”
Zoya grinned. “Yeah, this totally calls for a celebration.”
She took the glass from Harvey and downed it in one go.
Harvey followed suit, tossing his drink back just as quickly.
Harvey said, pouring out another drink, “We seriously need to celebrate you finally divorcing that jerk Nicolas. Honestly, Zoya, you should’ve never married a guy like him.”
Eowyn added, “Nicolas looked totally destroyed today. He’s always thought Jasmine was his savior. Well, now that he knows it was you, I feel that he’s going to start hounding you again.”
As she finished, Wren’s grip on Zoya’s hand got firmer. Harvey said, “If that guy even thinks about bothering you, I’ll bust his legs.”
“No need to go through that much trouble. I’ll make sure he never gets anywhere near Zoya again,” Wren said coldly.
Eowyn shivered. ‘Damn, these two are just brutal. Any normal girl wouldn’t stand a chance dealing with this kind of drama.
“No need for you guys to step in,” Zoya said firmly.
“Why? Are you feeling sorry for that jerk now?” Wren asked.
Zoya replied, “Not at all. Honestly, I doubt he’ll have the guts to bother me. But if he does show up and tries anything, I’ll beat him up. There is no need for you two to get involved.”
“Sounds good. Nicolas totally deserves a good punch to the face,” Eowyn laughed, raising her glass for a toast.
Everyone got to drinking, clinking glasses and letting the booze flow.
Harvey kept raising his glass to Zoya over and over. Zoya ended up downing way more than she realized.
At first it was all for the celebration, but once they got going, Harvey started bringing up old stories from their days in the military.
“Man, I really miss those days when we were in the army together, Zoya,” Harvey said with a wistful sigh.
Zoya chuckled, already a little tipsy from all the drinks. “I used to beat you up all the time. You really miss that?”
