Chapter 173
Harvey said while swirling his drink before knocking it ba that was the happiest time of my life. If we could go back to up every day.”
miss those days. When I was in the service, se days, I wouldn’t even mind if you beat me
Eowyn gave a little click of her tongue. In Ranard City, only Zoya could really get Harvey to admit he’d actually enjoy being roughed up like that.
However, Zoya was already with Wren. Eowyn just felt bad for Harvey, though she’d never say it out loud,
“Zoya, sometimes I just wish I could go back to those days in the service,” Harvey said while pouring himself another shot. He lifted his glass, ready to toast with Zoya.
Zoya saw him and picked up her own glass, and the two of them tapped their glasses together.
With a drunken smile, Harvey said, “Honestly, if I could go back to those days, I swear I’d finally tell you that
I…”
Eowyn cut him off abruptly, “Harvey!”
“What’s up?” Zoya blinked, her head fuzzy from the drinks. She hadn’t caught Harvey’s last words.
Wren said while sliding the glass smoothly from Zoya’s grip, “Nothing. Zoya, you’re already pretty drunk tonight. Let me take this one for you.”
With that, Wren fixed Harvey with an unreadable stare before lifting the glass and downing it in one go.
Harvey’s eyes flickered, narrowing as he stared him down.
Their gazes clashed midair, the tension between them practically sizzling.
Eowyn called out, “Harvey, you’re drunk, too. Lay off the booze, will you? I’m not carrying you home tonight.”
Harvey pressed his lips into a thin line, his gaze still locked on Wren. His grip on the glass was so tight that others could hear it creak beneath his fingers.
“Zoya’s had enough. I’m gonna get her home,” Wren said to Eowyn while setting his glass down.
“Yeah, go ahead,” Eowyn replied hurriedly. She didn’t want to stick around. If they lingered any longer, Harvey was bound to cause a scene.
After Wren left with Zoya, Eowyn looked at Harvey and sighed, “Seriously, what’s with you? Zoya’s with Wren
now.”
Harvey replied with a bitter smile, “Yeah, of course I know. It’s just hard to let it go. I knew Zoya long before Wren ever showed up. If I hadn’t held back so much and actually confessed earlier, maybe things would’ve been different.”
Eowyn said without holding back, “Harvey, Zoya only sees you like her little brother. I’m warning you. Zoya
and Wren are happy together right now. If you even think about screwing that up for them, you’ll face my
wrath.”
Harvey said while glancing up at her with a mocking grin, Do you think you can stop me? Or are you gonna call in my uncle to keep me in line?”
Eowyn froze. “Could you please not mention your uncle when I’m around? Whatever we had is over.”
Harvey snorted, a mocking glint in his eyes, “Is it really over? Listen, since you’re friends with Zoya, let me tell you something about my uncle.
“He’s the kind of guy who can’t let go of the past. My mom told me that when my uncle was little, he had a toy he clung to every night.
“Even when it got old and beat–up, he’d still sleep with it. When my grandma tried to toss it out, he wouldn’t let her touch it.”
Eowyn frowned. Harvey continued, “So, what do you think happened to that toy in the end?”
“Well, he must have either thrown it out or just kept it around forever,” Eowyn guessed.
“He tore it to pieces,” Harvey said.
“What?” Eowyn stared at him and felt a little lost.
Harvey said, “I forgot to mention that it was a toy car. My grandma tried to sneak it into the trash when no one was looking, but my uncle didn’t make a fuss.
“He just waited until the adults weren’t watching, then went out and started digging through the garbage.”
Eowyn was stunned. She thought, ‘Leon actually went through the trash as a kid? Seriously?‘
She just couldn’t picture it.
“So, did he ever find it?” she asked curiously.
Harvey replied, “Nope, the adults caught him and gave him a lecture, but he wouldn’t back down. He looked them dead in the eye and said if he didn’t find the toy, he’d keep digging through the trash every single day
until he did.”
“He really is stubborn,” Eowyn said.
Harvey said, “So, in the end, the adults actually had to get someone to dig through the trash and finally managed to find that toy car.
“They cleaned it off, but the wheels were trashed and wouldn’t roll right anymore. Still, even like that, Leon just ripped it apart, turning it into nothing but scattered pieces.”
“Why did he shred it like that? Was he into breaking toys?” Eowyn was utterly baffled.
Harvey explained, “No, that was the only toy he ever destroyed. When the adults asked him, he just shrugged
and said, ‘Since I’ve played with it, I don’t want anyone else messing with it. I loved it so much.”
Eowyn felt a chill run down her spine, goosebumps pricklin all over.
Harvey gave her a sly, almost mocking smile. “You’re the only girl Leon ever officially admitted as his girlfriend. If he really cares about something, he’d rather tear it apart than let anyone else lay a finger on it.”
Eowyn gave a wry smile. “Don’t be ridiculous. Leon wasn’t ever that into me. I had to pursue him relentlessly before he finally agreed to date me.”
Harvey swirled his drink quietly.
‘Leon’s cold as ice, not the kind of guy who says yes just because some girl throws herself at him. If he were, he’d probably have a whole army of women now, Harvey thought.
But there was no point in telling all this to Eowyn. He’d already given her all the warning she needed.
“If I
get wasted later, make sure I get home,” Harvey said while pouring himself another drink and downing mouthful after mouthful.
Eowyn sighed, “Alright, drink up. I’ll get you home later.”
It was obvious Harvey was just trying to drown his sorrows, and honestly, she couldn’t really stop him anyway.
After all, back when she and Leon broke up, she used to drink herself silly just to forget as well.
Nicolas stumbled back to the villa, looking like his whole world had just fallen apart.
He’d bought this place after he became wealthy, but after the divorce, Zoya took every single thing that belonged to her, except for those cheap wedding rings.
But even those were gone by then.
“Nicolas, you’re finally back. Come here and take a look at these profiles I got from a friend today. Every single girl on here is way better than Jasmine,” Anica Mayer said, shoving a stack of papers into his hands.
“Yeah, Nicolas, Mom shelled out a ton of cash for these. You can’t just blow off her efforts,” Violette Mayer chimed in.
Nicolas’s face darkened as he stared at the documents. “A ton of cash? Do you even realize my company’s about to go under? Why are you wasting money on this crap? Are you trying to watch me crash and burn?”
