Chapter 187
Wren and Zoya’d had sex once in the bathroom and three more times in bed.
If Zoya hadn’t put her foot down and demanded sleep, Wren probably would’ve kept going till sunrise.
His desire for this was simply insatiable.
A few days later, it was the day of Anica and Violette’s trial. As the victim, Zoya was required to testify in court.
Outside the courthouse, Zoya spotted Nicolas.
His arm was wrapped in a bandage. When he saw Zoya and Wren, his expression flickered for a moment.
“Zoya, can’t you just let my mom and Violette go?” Nicolas blurted out.
Zoya’s expression was icy. “They never thought about letting me go. Why should I let them off the hook?”
“But my mom is elderly. She wouldn’t survive prison. If Violette ends up behind bars for this, her future is completely shot!” Nicolas couldn’t help but beg.
“You should say that to the judge, not me,” Zoya cut him off sharply.
“Is it because you hate me?” Nicolas asked.
Zoya replied coldly, “Hate? Someone like you has never been worth my hatred.”
With that, she took Wren’s hand and walked past Nicolas.
“But…” Nicolas reached out to stop her, but locked eyes with Wren.
“Nicolas, are you really looking to get another arm broken?” Wren said.
Nicolas instantly went rigid, not daring to move forward.
He didn’t dare to breathe until Zoya and Wren had completely disappeared. Only then did he let out a ragged breath.
‘So this is what it’s come to? In Zoya’s eyes, I’m not even worth the effort of hating anymore?’ Nicolas thought.

The trial went pretty much like everyone expected.
Anica and Violette threw out every excuse they could come up with, but the evidence was rock solid. They’d hired two guys to sneak into Zoya’s hotel room and drug the place, trying to set her up so they could kick her to the curb with nothing to her name.
Nicolas’s lawyer tried everything, but it didn’t make a dent.
In the end, Anica and Violette were both sentenced to three years in prison.
At the verdict, Anica and Violette were so scared they burst into messy, desperate sobs.
Anica cried out to Zoya, “Zoya, please, can’t we work something out? Whatever you want, just say the word- Nicolas will do anything. I’m too old for prison. Please, have mercy!”
“Zoya, I’m begging you. Please forgive me. Jasmine was egging us on. She talked my mom and me into it. If it wasn’t for her, we’d never have done anything like that to you!” Violette wailed.
“Yeah, it was all Jasmine. That woman’s a real piece of work!” Anica spat.
Looking at Anica and Violette now, Zoya just found it all laughable.
Back then, they absolutely adored Jasmine-practically wishing Nicolas would marry her right away.
However, they had turned their backs on her by that point.
“I’m not going to settle,” Zoya said coldly.
Anica and Violette instantly freaked out.
Anica blurted out, “Don’t you still love my son? I can get Nicolas back together with you-he listens to me. If you just agree to settle, I’ll make sure he remarries you.”
“Mom, stop!” Nicolas snapped, feeling utterly humiliated. Zoya had already shot down his plea to get back together, and Anica was just making it even worse now.
Zoya said, “The man I love is my boyfriend, Wren. As for Nicolas, whoever wants him can take him off my hands!” With a cheeky grin, she reached out and tugged Wren down by his tie.
Wren leaned in close, one arm wrapping around her waist, the other tilting her chin up, and pressed a bold kiss to her lips, right in front of everyone.
Anica and Violette stood there, frozen dumbstruck.
When Wren straightened, his gaze was all warmth for Zoya, but as he looked at the Mayer family trio, his eyes turned razor sharp and cold.
Wren announced, “I’d better not hear anyone saying my girlfriend’s got a thing for someone else, unless you’re itching to spend the rest of your life locked up!”
He wasn’t just warning the Mayer family. He made sure everyone present got the message loud and clear.
The Mayer family was shcoked.
Violette, who knew exactly what the Richmond family was capable of in Ranard City, shot back with a venomous glare, “But Zoya’s a divorcee.
“How could she ever be good enough for you, Mr. Richmond? She’s just the woman my brother has discarded.”
Wren narrowed his eyes, locking onto Violette. If they weren’t in a courtroom, he’d have already beaten her half to death.
“Your brother wasn’t even good enough for her!” Wren shot back, his voice icy and sharp.
The Mayer family froze for a second, but before they could even process what was happening, the bailiffs swooped in and marched Anica and Violette right out of the courtroom.
No matter how unwilling they were, it didn’t make a bit of difference.
“Let’s go,” Zoya said, grabbing Wren by the hand and heading out.
Nicolas stood there, totally embarrassed, with everyone around him staring like he was some kind of joke.
Wren’s sharp reply just kept ringing in his ears.
Nicolas wondered, ‘Am I really not good enough for Zoya? I used to be the one closest to her, and now I’m stuck watching her lock lips with Wren right in front of me.’
However, he didn’t even have the guts to do anything about it.

As they got in the car, Zoya suddenly blurted out, “I’ve been married before. People are probably never going to let that go.”
Wren said with a lazy grin, “Who cares? That never mattered to me. All I care about is you loving me.”
Zoya couldn’t help but laugh. “Guess I was just stressing myself out for nothing.”
Wren reached over and gently brushed a strand of hair from Zoya’s cheek. “If I cared about anything, it’d only be that I met you too late. If I’d known you earlier, I would’ve done whatever it takes so you’d never end up marrying Nicolas.”
Zoya arched a brow, teasing him, “Are you sure you would’ve actually liked me if we’d met back then?”
Wren replied, utterly confident, “No doubt about it. Even if it wasn’t love at first sight, the more times I ran into you, the more I’d be drawn in. I know I’d fall for you.”
His love for her was never about a lightning strike. It was a steady, irresistible fire, sparked every time her brilliance caught his eye.
Since his life was covered by darkness, he was always attracted to the positive energy Zoya radiated, while feeling unworthy at the same time.
“It’s not too late for us to find each other and fall in love now,” Zoya said.
“Yeah, it’s never too late,” Wren replied.
‘If only we’d crossed paths sooner. If I’d known she was searching for her brother back then, maybe I wouldn’t have screwed everything up,’ Wren thought.

Just then, Zoya’s inbox pinged. She’d received an anonymous email.
She clicked it open, and her expression shifted dramatically.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?” Wren immediately noticed the change in her face.
Zoya replied, “I can’t tell you yet. But trust me, when I can, you’ll be the first to know.”
Wren’s eyes flickered, but he just nodded. “Alright.”
Wren had some work stuff to handle, so he dropped Zoya back at her apartment before heading off to the
office.
Once Wren’s car was out of sight, Zoya pulled up the email again. It read: [Pay me 30 million within three days and I’ll give you info on your brother. No one can know about this-not even Wren.]
