Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28

“Give you a ride,” Wren said.

“No, thank you. Mr. Richmond, please have your driver stop. I can get into my friend’s car.” Zoya refused.

“What if I insist on giving you a ride?” Wren smiled faintly, his long fingers still gripping Zoya’s wrist.

His cool fingers pressed against her skin, which had grown hot, producing a strange sensation.

Zoya frowned. “Let go.”

Wren’s eyes flickered, his fingertip brushing her wrist almost imperceptibly. “Do you really want me to let go?”

Zoya shivered as a tingling spread from her wrist through her whole body. The heat inside her flared even more.

“Miss Lucero, you don’t seem well. Are you sure you still want to go to the police station?” Wren whispered.

Zoya pressed her lips together, watching his slightly parted mouth, and suddenly her throat felt dry.

She wanted water… No, maybe something else. The heat in her body warned that she was in danger.

The drug was stronger than Zoya had expected; she needed to find a way to calm herself first.

“Mr. Richmond, if it’s not too much trouble, could you take me to the hospital first?” Zoya asked, breathing a little, forcing herself not to look at Wren.

Because of the drug, Wren now seemed like honey to a bear. Zoya couldn’t help wanting to get closer, to taste, to consume.

‘Stop!‘ she told herself silently. ‘Do not think that way!

“Instead of going to a hospital, wouldn’t it be faster to use an antidote?” Wren said.

“An antidote?” Zoya startled.

“I can be the antidote for Miss Lucero. How does that sound?” His casual tone made it sound like an offhand suggestion.

Hearing this, Zoya choked on her own saliva. She thought, ‘Is the antidote he means the kind I’m thinking of?”

In the front seat, the driver and Gilbert were stunned. ‘Have we heard correctly? Mr. Richmond has just offered to be Zoya’s antidote? When does he ever say anything like that to a woman?‘

When everyone was still reeling, Wren grabbed that socialite and dragged her to the rooftop edge.

“If you don’t dare to jump, do you want me to help?” Wren asked.

The woman had fled in terror.

After that, women in his circle no longer made life–or–death pleas to him. And some even said a man like Wren would never truly fall in love.

But now Wren was offering himself for Zoya–the idea hit like lightning.

Zoya felt struck too. “You don’t mean using your body as an antidote, do you?” she asked.

“Yes, that’s exactly what I mean.” Wren leaned toward her. “I consider my body quite decent. If you need it, you may use it at any time.”

‘The people from a small town are so useless. They can’t even handle a little scheme, Jasmine thought, regretting how much time she’d wasted giving them hints.

Nicolas sat on a bench in the station lobby, his mind in turmoil. He had hoped to use tonight’s party to find new partners.

Now, after this, not only were new deals uncertain, the existing projects might be at risk, and the company’s stock would likely take a hit.

“By the way, where is Zoya? Why hasn’t she arrived?” Nicolas asked an officer.

“Miss Lucero felt unwell and went to the hospital. We’ll send officers there to take her statement,” the officer replied.

Nicolas’s face shifted with worry and he called Zoya.

After a moment, a man answered, “Nicolas? Are you looking for Zoya?”

“Who is this?” Nicolas asked. The voice sounded vaguely familiar and made him uneasy.

“Wren Richmond,” Wren replied.

“Where is Zoya? How come her phone is with you?” Nicolas asked anxiously.

“Oh, she’s sleeping. Is there something you need? I can tell her when she wakes,” Wren said.

Nicolas tightened his grip on the phone. His chest felt raw and aching.

He had once been sure a man like Wren would never pay Zoya any mind. Now she slept beside Wren.

“What could that mean?‘ Nicolas wondered.
