Nicolas didn’t even remember how he’d ended the call. While his mind swam in a haze, Jasmine had already come out of the interrogation room.

“Nothing about this is my doing, Nicolas,” Jasmine stepped forward to explain. “I heard your mother and sister mention wanting you to divorce Zoya, but I truly had no idea they’d go so far as to do something like this to force a divorce.”

Nicolas watched her in silence.

Seeing his reaction, Jasmine snapped, suddenly angry, “You don’t believe me? Do you really think I’d stoop to something so shameless just to get you to divorce?

“If that’s how you see it, don’t come look for me again. Spare me the gossip.”

With that, Jasmine turned to leave. Nicolas took a quick step forward and blocked her way.

“Sorry, Jasmine. It’s just so much happened today that my head’s all over the place.” Nicolas apologized.

Jasmine’s eyes flashed. “Nicolas, I hope you know I’m not the type to use tricks to frame someone. If I really wanted you to divorce, I’d say it straight out.”

The apology in Nicolas’s eyes deepened. He thought, ‘Yes. Jasmine has always been bold and straightforward.

‘A woman like her wouldn’t take part in something like this.

Violette must have panicked and dragged Jasmine in to share the blame.‘

“Sorry. I shouldn’t have doubted you,” Nicolas said, guilt written on his face.

“It’s okay. Just keep trusting me,” Jasmine replied.

“Of course I trust you. You saved my life. How could I not?” Nicolas said softly.

Jasmine gave a small smile and reached up to smooth the hair at his temple. “Exactly. You know I saved your life. Nicolas, just keep believing in me.”

‘Believe in my innocence, and believe I had really saved his life, Jasmine thought.

In the hospital’s VIP room, Wren set Zoya’s phone on the bedside table and watched her sleep after being sedated.

Even in slumber, Zoya wasn’t resting peacefully. Her pale skin flushed and ran hot. Now and then, a soft moan slipped from her lips.

The drug in her system was still working itself out, and once it metabolized there would be no long–term harm.

“Gilbert, why do you think she refused me? There are easier ways to ease her pain, aren’t there?” Wren’s voice broke the quiet, and Gilbert straightened behind him.

“Miss Lucero is still married. She probably has reservations,” Gilbert replied carefully.

Gilbert thought, If Mr. Richind took his approach, it would amount to cheating by anyone’s standards.”

But Gilbert nevertheless knew Wren cared little for conventional morals.

“So if she divorced and became single, would she agree?” Wren asked.

Gilbert hesitated, unsure how to answer.

Wren did not really wait for an answer. He wiped the fine sweat from Zoya’s brow. “What can I do? I want her closer and closer.”

Wren wanted to see what other fascinating things Zoya would show him next.

Gilbert looked at the sleeping Zoya with a touch of sympathy.

He thought, ‘To Mr. Richmond, people are usually two kinds: those who are useful and those who are not.

‘Lately, however, a third kind has emerged–those he desired. For Zoya, that’s not necessarily fortunate.‘

When Zoya woke she felt utterly exhausted; sweat left her sticky.

“I’m completing the discharge paperwork. I’m heading out.” Zoya said.

“I’ll wait at the hospital entrance. You’ll see me when you come out,” Eowyn said quickly.

“Okay.” Zoya replied.

After the call Zoya turned to Wren. “By the way, the clothes you gave me at the mall are all dry–cleaned. I planned to return them at last night’s party, but that didn’t work out. When I get home should I just send them to the Richmond residence?”

“You really don’t want what I gave you?” Wren’s gaze darkened slightly.

They’re too valuable. It’s not appropriate,” Zoya explained.

Wren stared at her for a moment, then stad, “Fine. But don’t use courier. Since I gave them to you in person, you should return them in person.”

“All right, I’ll—” Zoya began.

“I’ll have someone inform you when,” Wren cut in and left the sentence there.

Zoya was speechless, muttering, ‘Wait for his notice to return a dress?”

Soon, Zoya finished discharge procedures and, since she had come in a gown, bought a cheap T–shirt and pants from the hospital shop to change into.

When she stepped out of the hospital, Zoya saw Eowyn waiting at the entrance. Another person stood beside her.

Before Zoya could make out who it was, that figure suddenly rushed over and grabbed her.

“Zoya, did you get married just to end up like this?” the person cried, hugging her fiercely.
