Nicolas felt a sudden emptiness in his arms as the warmth that had been there vanished. “You’re moving out?” Nicolas said, startled.

“Yes. You don’t really think I’d stay here after what happened, do you?” Zoya replied. “Besides, we’ll be getting divorced soon. anyway. I’m just moving out a few days early.”

“Divorce in a few days?” Nicolas said. “You’re not talking about that ridiculous contract my mom tricked me into signing without my knowledge, are you? I told you, I never wanted a divorce.”

At the police station, Nicolas had also learned from Anica about the divorce agreement and Zoya’s demand for a $30- million divorce settlement.

“Whether you knew or not before, I don’t care. I want a divorce from you,” Zoya said.

“Is it because of Wren? Have you found someone better than me?” A flash of jealousy crossed Nicolas’s eyes.

Zoya looked at him with pity. “Nicolas, when I married you, you had nothing. Even the start–up capital for your business

came from me. If I were really after money or status, I wouldn’t have chosen you.”

Nicolas paled, remembering when he was a poor kid everyone looked down on) But Zoya had given him respect and helped

rebuild his confidence.

Back then, proposing to her had felt like grabbing onto a life raft. “If it’s not for Wren, then why? For the 30 milli my mother promised?” he pressed, staring at her.

Zoya said flatly, “I’m tired. This three–year marriage has exhausted me. It’s drained all my feelings for you. So, I want a divorce.” Her tone was even, her expression placid, and her gaze steady.

Yet Nicolas felt his heart inexplicably accelerate. A sense of unease spread from his chest through his limbs, and cold sweat broke out on his palms.

“Y–you have no feelings for me anymore?” Even Nicolas didn’t notice the slight tremor in his voice.

“Yes. No feelings left,” Zoya replied.

Instantly, his face twisted. “Just because of what my mother and Violette did? Fine, they set you up, but weren’t you setting them up too?

“Otherwise, how could you have secretly filmed everything with a camera and played it in front of everyone? You didn’t have to be so ruthless.”

Nicolas growled, venting his frustration. “You could have told me earlier. Things wouldn’t have turned out like this.”

“I did call you,” Zoya said suddenly.

“What?” Nicolas was taken aback.

Zoya continued, “When Anica and Violette first planned to use those despicable means against me, I called you.

“If you had answered then, things might have ended the way you wanted, and I wouldn’t be where I am now. But you didn’t pick up.”

Nicolas froze, suddenly remembering the call from Zoya he had received just before the live feed started at the party.

But at that time, Nicolas was afraid Zoya would make a scene, and since Jasmine was right beside him, he had hung up.

Nicolas said, “Zoya, I didn’t know what you were going through. I was busy with something else, so I missed the call.”

At the bar, Nicolas was drinking heavily, looking frustrated.

Jasmine said tenderly, “Don’t drink so much. We’ll figure something out about Anica and Violette. I can ask my uncle if he knows any lawyers who’d be willing to help.”

Nicolas looked at her gratefully. “Jasmine, thank you. Violette treated you that way, and yet you’re still willing to help.”

“Don’t be silly. I’m not that petty, Violette is your sister. I don’t hold grudges,” Jasmine said generously.

Darren chimed in approvingly, “That’s why I say a generous lady like Jasmine is so much better than someone like Zoya, who holds grudges.

“If she hadn’t made such a fuss, your mom and Violette wouldn’t be in custody right now.”

Nicolas frowned. “Enough. Don’t talk about Zoya anymore.”

She quickly said to Nicolas, “I see my uncle. Let’s go say something. The man with him is quite powerful.

“Even the top lawyers in Ranard give him respect. If he’s willing to help, you won’t have to worry about finding a good

lawyer.”
