Chapter 64
The two of them stared blankly at each other.
The air seemed to freeze.
Wren leaned down, his eyes fixed on Zoya. He whispered softly, “Or are you saying you hate me?”

His eyes, usually as still as a dead sea showing no hint of a ripple, now seemed to have faint ripples, almost as if they were bewitching.
“I don’t hate you!” Zoya raised an eyebrow, meeting his gaze.
She explained, “But you know, I just got divorced, and I currently have no plans to fall for any man. Besides, you haven’t fallen for me, have you?”
“What if I fall for you? Will you fall for me?” Wren asked.
Zoya was stunned. She thought, ‘What did he mean by that?’
She said, “Didn’t I just say I currently have no plans to fall for any man? So even if you fall for me, I won’t fall for you!”
“What about later? Will you fall for anyone then?” Wren asked again.
“Who knows what the future holds!” Zoya said.
Wren slightly narrowed his eyes, then suddenly smiled. “That’s right. Who knows what the future holds!”
Perhaps too much had happened during the day, so Zoya found herself unable to sleep in the middle of the night.
Just then, she suddenly heard faint sounds coming from the next room.
Zoya started, suddenly sat up, then cautiously emerged from her room, just as she saw Wren leaving his room and heading downstairs.
When Wren saw Zoya appear, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes. “You really are a good bodyguard.”
“Where are you going in the middle of the night?” Zoya asked.
“To the living room,” Wren said, “Since you’re not asleep either, come have a drink with me.”
Arriving at the living room downstairs, Wren walked over to the liquor cabinet. “What kind of drink do
like?”
“I don’t drink,” she said. After all, she was responsible for his safety, and her movements would inevitably be affected by alcohol if she drank.
Wren didn’t insist. He poured himself a glass of red wine and drank it.
He followed with a second and then a third glass.
Zoya thought, “This isn’t savoring wine. He is guzzling it!’
This was truly different from his usual self.

Just as Wren was about to drink a fourth glass, Zoya suddenly reached out and held his hand.
She said, “Don’t drink any more. You’ll harm yourself if you keep drinking.”
“Are you worried about me?” he asked, looking up at her.

His eyes were clearly calm and still, as if he were just asking the most ordinary question, yet subtly, they seemed to hold a yearning.
Zoya thought, Yearning?
I must have been mistaken. How could someone like Wren crave others’ concern?’
However, she still said, “Yes, I worry about you. I don’t want anything to happen to you while I’m protecting you.”
His eyes seemed to dim slightly. “If you weren’t responsible for protecting me now, would you not worry about me?”
She pursed her lips, feeling that if she answered “yes” at that moment, perhaps some things would change.
“If you developed feelings for me, would you still worry about me even if you weren’t responsible for my safety?” He suddenly leaned closer and stared at her.
Their faces were extremely close, and his cool breath fell upon her face.
“What’s up with you?” Zoya frowned. Just as she was about to pull away, Wren suddenly reached out, gripped her wrist, preventing her from moving away.
“Zoe, please love me. okay?” His usually clear, cold voice was now a little hoarse as he murmured.
Zoya was stunned for a moment, looking at the face so close to her own.
Wren was a very handsome man, with a straight nose, delicate, slightly moist lips, and a pair of deep eyes under sword-like eyebrows, which now seemed to stir with a ripple of emotion.
Because of the alcohol, a faint blush appeared on his cheeks, and even his eyes seemed to carry a hint of intoxication.
“No! Zoya said decisively.
Wren was too dangerous for her. From the very beginning, she did not want to get involved with him.
If Arthur had not intervened, she would not have taken on the job of protecting him.
His eyelashes trembled slightly. “Why?”
“Would you love me?” Zoya retorted.
This time, Wren fell silent.
Zoya articulated, “A stirred heart means one might fall in love.
“As I said before, the person I want to love is someone who can be with me and share the ups and downs of life with me, never abandon me, and never betray me!”
She thought, ‘Not like Nicolas, always standing by another woman’s side, always disregarding my efforts!’
Nicolas could even break his past promises.

“Then if I could be as you described, would you fall for me?” Wren murmured.
“What?” Zoya was stunned, completely not expecting Wren to say that.
He said nothing more, only suddenly leaned his head towards her.
She moved, trying to dodge, but he said, “Don’t dodge. Can I lean on your shoulder?”
This time, Zoya did not dodge, and Wren’s head rested on her shoulder.

A woman’s shoulders were more slender than a man’s, yet her shoulders felt so strong. Leaning on it gave him a sense of
security.
“Today, I received a call from my father,” he said abruptly.
“What?” Zoya was surprised. Wren’s father was almost like an invisible figure.
The Richmond family’s previous head was Henry Richmond. After he died, Wren took control of the family. As for Wren’s father, it was as if he had been deliberately overlooked by the Richmond family.
Even the news media in Ranard City had few reports about Wren’s father.
“My relationship with my father is very strained,” Wren said softly, “If one day I died, the happiest person would probably be my father.”
Zoya was stunned for a moment before thinking, ‘No wonder he said on the plane that not all parents love their children.’
“Do you know? When I was little, I always wished someone could stand up to my father…” His voice suddenly stopped, and he didn’t continue.
“What?” She hummed quizzically.
“It’s nothing,” he said lightly.
He thought, ‘Is it because of the alcohol? In that instant, I actually wanted to tell her the thoughts buried deep in my memory.’
He secretly wanted someone to protect him in front of his father, to help him escape his father.
When he was a weak little kid, Wren once hoped for others to save him.
But now that he was strong and no longer feared anyone, he wondered why he had almost revealed his most vulnerable self to her.
His voice quietly drifted through the air. “Zoya, if one day I truly, as you said, love only you, never betray you, walk aloperide ou
