Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 98

Chapter 98

Zoya gently comforted the child in her arms, and the child, whose face was originally full of fear, finally slowly calmed down.

Soon, the child fell asleep in Zoya’s arms.

Zoya carefully placed the child back on the hospital bed and then covered the child with a blanket.

Thank you so much for today,” the orphanage director said gratefully.

Not only did Zoya comfort the child, but she also saved their life.

“That’s what I should do; no need for thanks,” Zoya said.,

Even though she had retired from the military, the oath she took during her service remained a lifelong commitment.

If this child has any further issues, you can contact me,” Zoya said. After giving her contact information to the director, she eft the infirmary.

As soon as she stepped out, Zoya saw Nicolas standing by the door.

Why is he here?’ she thought.

Zoya took a step, planning to walk past him.

But Nicolas stopped her. “Why did you say those things to that child?”

Zoya frowned slightly, asking, “What words?”

Why did you tell the child you would save him, that you would absolutely save him?” Nicolas’s gaze fixed on Zoya.

A panic he couldn’t even name was spreading within him.

Zoya said coldly, “What, am I not allowed to say such things?”

‘No, but why would you…” Nicolas’s voice suddenly paused. “Zoya, I don’t know where you got this information, but why do you keep imitating Jasmine? You and I both know that the one who saved me back then wasn’t you; it was Jasmine.”

His words weren’t just for her; they were also for himself.

The person who saved him must have been Jasmine; he couldn’t possibly be mistaken.

He could barely imagine the consequences if he were mistaken.

“What I say is my freedom, Nicolas. If you believe Jasmine saved you, then continue to believe it. I have never yearned to be your savior, much less imitate Jasmine,” Zoya said coldly.

Just as she started to walk past Nicolas, he suddenly grabbed her sleeve.

“Zoya, tell me, why did you rush into the sea today to save that child? That child is no relation to you. Why did you life to save a child you don’t even know?” Nicolas asked.

“Does it need a reason?” Zoya asked, looking amusedly at the person in front of her. “If saving a stranger requires a reason, then you wouldn’t be standing here perfectly fine right now; you would have drowned in the river long ago.”

You… Nicolas was about to say more when a figure stepped forward and swatted away his grip on Zoya’s hand.

Nicolas glared at the suddenly appearing Wren. “Mr. Richmond, what are you doing.”

“You and Zoe are already divorced. There’s no need for this entanglement,” Wren said with displeasure.

The mention of “Zoe” grated on Nicolas’s ears. Recalling the scene by the sea where Wren embraced Zoya, he retorted impatiently, “So you can, Mr. Richmond?”

Wren narrowed his eyes. “If it were me, I’d never be foolish enough to divorce Zoe. So, whatever happens between us is none of your business. And, congratulations on being with your first love. Whenever you two get married, I’ll be sure to send a generous gift.”

Nicolas was so stunned that he felt a tightness in his chest.

Zoya looked at Wren. “Why did you come?”

“I was afraid something might happen to you, so I came to check,” Wren said.

“It’s nothing. The child was startled but is now asleep,” Zoya said. “Let’s go.”

“Okay,” Wren replied.

Just as the two were about to leave, Nicolas suddenly called out, “Zoya.”

Zoya paused, turning to look at Nicolas.

Nicolas’s face lit up. Sure enough, he still had an influence on Zoya; she would still turn around whenever he called her.

But when he met her cold, almond-shaped eyes, he suddenly froze, and the words he had wanted to say seemed to get stuck in his throat.

“Nicolas, stop bothering me about the person who saved you from drowning years ago. We’re divorced, and whoever your savior is, it has nothing to do with me. Or are you saying you’d regret it if I really were your savior? Regret our three-year marriage and regret divorcing me?”

Her eyes were full of sarcasm.

But he couldn’t say a single word.

Nicolas only stumbled after Zoya and Wren had left.

‘Regret? Would I regret it? No, I wouldn’t. Zoya is the one who should regret this. Does Zoya think things will be better now that she’s with Wren? How could a person like Wren truly care for her? It’s just a fleeting interest,’ he thought.

As for him, once he overcame this company crisis, his future would be brighter. He would make Zoya understand that not being his wife was the greatest loss of her life.

But he was feeling so uneasy.

Nicolas walked into the infirmary step by step.

“Hey, is everything alright?” the head of the infirmary asked, seeing the pale Nicolas enter with a hint of surprise.

Nicolas didn’t answer. He just looked at the little boy lying on the bed, as if deep in thought.

After a long while, he left the infirmary and made a phone call.

I need you to help me investigate the incident when I fell into the river back then. I want to know if anyone else was present when I was rescued, besides Jasmine,” he said.

After ending the call, Nicolas put away his phone and told himself that he was only doing this to no longer have a reason to doubt Jasmine.

As Zoya and Wren headed back to the banquet hall, Wren suddenly asked, “What would you do if Nicolas found out you were his lifesaver and regretted divorcing you?”

“What?” Zoya was stunned.

“Would you remarry him?” Wren stared at Zoya, observing her reaction.

“No,” she stated firmly.

Regardless, things between her and Nicolas were completely over.

“Even if he begged you earnestly?” Wren asked again.

Zoya chuckled, “He wouldn’t. He loves Jasmine. If he only begged for a reunion because he knew I was his lifesaver, wouldn’t that kind of relationship be too ridiculous?”

Wren’s lips curved slightly. “It certainly is ridiculous.”

Poor Nicolas, Zoe was clearly his savior and had always been by his side, yet he was so easily deceived by Jasmine.

“If it were me, I would never mistake my savior,” Wren said softly.

“Do you believe I am Nicolas’s savior?” Zoya asked.

“Yes, I do,” he said without hesitation. “I believe everything you say.”

Zoya felt a warmth in her heart. Nicolas, her husband of three years, showed no trust in her, yet Wren, whom she had known for less than three months, was willing to believe her words.

This feeling of being believed was truly wonderful.

However, that evening, Zoya’s good feeling vanished when she saw Wren standing at her bedroom door, holding a pillow.
