Reven’s POV

“Aren’t you done dressing?” I heard Derick’s voice from outside my room.

“I’m almost done!” I shouted back as I fixed my hair.

“Hurry. I don’t want us to be late.”

“Okay, give me a sec,” I said as I looked for the appropriate shoes to wear.

Today was the day… the council trial.

My stomach twisted like someone tied it into a knot. My hands were shaking as I picked up the black heels from the floor.

I slipped them on and stared at my reflection. I touched my face, inhaled, exhaled, and took one last glance in the mirror.

This was the day that would decide everything: my children, my life, Derick’s reputation, everything.

I walked out of the room.

Derick was already in the living room waiting impatiently. The moment he saw me, he blew out a breath.

“Thank goodness. I was thinking of coming to carry you out of that room,” he said.

I smiled a little. “Well, I’m here now. Let’s go.”

He reached for my hand, but before he could lead me toward the door, we heard a voice behind us.

“Derick.”

We both turned.

His mother.

She stood with her arms folded, her expression sharp and clearly displeased. Her eyes moved from Derick to me, and the greeting I gave her was met with nothing no smile, no nod, nothing.

Derick straightened. “Mom, we are leaving.”

She stepped closer. “Derick, are you sure you want to do this?”

“I am.”

Her eyes flicked to me again, cold, judgmental. “You know what will happen if you lose. The case will be everywhere. All over the net. All over the packs. People will question your leadership. They will question your future.

Derick didn’t even blink. “Mom, let’s not do this today.”

Heat burned the back of my eyes, but I refused to cry in front of her.

Derick’s jaw clenched. “We’re late, Mom.”

He took my hand firmly and walked out, pulling me with him.

Outside, the car was already waiting. We got in, and the door closed.

Silence.

Heavy, uncomfortable silence.

My heart kept beating fast. I knew Alpha Ethan. He would go to any length to get what he wanted. If he could threaten me, destroy me, then taking my kids wouldn’t be hard for him.

I didn’t want Derick to lose. Not because of me. Not because of my past. Not because of Ethan.

“Derick,” I whispered, “what she said… I’m sorry.”

But I still felt guilty. Deep down, guilt sat like a heavy stone in my chest.

The car drove for an hour before we finally got to the werewolf council building.

The driver stopped at the entrance.

Derick got down first. He walked around, opened my door, and took my hand again.

His eyes softened a little. “Are you ready?”

I nodded even though I wasn’t. Not even close.

We walked toward the hall.

The doors were tall and carved with old symbols of wolves and moons. When we stepped inside, the hall took my breath.

It was large, beautifully decorated, and filled with high–ranking werewolves from different packs. Alphas, Betas, Elders, and council members. Some sat with serious faces; others whispered quietly, already judging.

I could smell Alpha Ethan.

My breathing faltered.

“For custody of the twins born five years ago,” the Elder continued. “The claim is that Alpha Ethan is the biological father and seeks full rights.”

A whisper went through the hall.

The Elder raised his hand. Silence returned.

“You may sit.”

Everyone sat again.

The trial started.

“Alpha Ethan,” the Elder said, “state your case.”

Alpha Ethan wheeled himself forward. Every eye followed him. Even though he was in a wheelchair, his aura filled the hall like fire.

He placed his hands on the sides of the chair and spoke calmly.

The hall murmured.

He paused. His voice grew deeper.

He turned slightly and looked directly at me.

That stare made my skin crawl.

“And I will not leave here without justice.”

The Elder nodded. “Thank you, Alpha Ethan. Alpha Derick…”

Derick stood immediately.

He stepped forward, shoulders straight, aura strong. When he spoke, his voice echoed.

I was with her even before she gave birth to the children. “I raised those children from the day they were born.

He took a breath.
