Mated To The Alpha King (Raven and Ethan) novel Chapter 303

Chapter 303

Reven’s POV

I asked the driver to come and take us home. I didn’t want to spend the night here.

The kids were already tired, hungry, and worried, and all I wanted was to get them somewhere safe, somewhere calm.

Alpha Ethan was still in the clinic room, sitting halfway up on the hospital bed, his left hand heavily bandaged and his right shoulder wrapped. He tried to stand when he saw me approach, but I quickly moved forward.

Don’t,I said gently, placing my hand on his chest. You’re in pain.

His jaw tightened stubbornly, but he sighed and relaxed. I took the wheelchair the nurse rolled in and placed it beside his bed.

Let me help you.

He didn’t argue, not this time. He shifted carefully, and I supported him as he lowered himself into the wheelchair.

He winced slightly when his injured arm brushed the side of the bed.

The kids immediately rushed to him.

Daddy, does it hurt?Zara asked, placing her tiny palm on his knee.

I’ll be fine, princess,Ethan said softly, giving her one of his warm smiles. Daddy is strong.”

I swallowed. That word again. Strong. He kept trying to be strong for everyone even when he was breaking inside.

We wheeled him out of the clinic room, the kids walking beside us, one on each side of the wheelchair.

When we stepped outside, the driver was already waiting by the car, door open.

I helped Ethan out of the wheelchair and into the backseat first. It took some adjusting, and I had to hold him a bit longer than necessary, but he didn’t complain. Once he was seated, I helped the kids climb in.

Lucian, Lyra, and Zara sat beside him, and I got in last before the driver shut the door. The ride back to the pack house was silent for a long while. Too silent.

Then, after several minutes, a small voice broke the stillness.

MummyDaddyI’m sorry.”

Ethan and I turned at the same time.

Lucian’s head was bowed, fingers twisting nervously in his lap. Zara looked confused, gently touching her

brother’s arm.

Lucian, sweetheart,I said softly. Sorry for what?

His little lips quivered as he looked up at Ethan. It was my idea to come to Disneylandand Daddy got hurt here. If I didn’t say we should go, Daddy wouldn’t be injured.”

My heart shattered a bit as I reached for him.

Oh, baby… no,I whispered, pulling him into a hug even though we were all squeezed in the backseat. Don’t say that. What happened was an accident. It wasn’t your fault.

He nodded slowly into my chest. I kissed the top of his head and kept my arm around him until he leaned back gently.

Even Ethan stretched his good hand and patted Lucian’s knee. Daddy is okay, champ. Don’t blame yourself.

By the time we reached the pack house, the tension in the car had eased a little, though my heart was still in a

storm.

The driver came around to open the door, and I stepped out first. Then I helped the kids get down before moving to help Ethan. He waited patiently, wincing again as he shifted.

Careful,I murmured, slipping my hand under his arm.

He looked right at me then, eyes soft. Too soft. Something twisted in my chest again, but I pushed it aside.

Once he was seated in the wheelchair again, I started pushing him toward the entrance of the pack house. The kids walked beside us, their steps quiet and small.

The moment we stepped into the hall, I heard hurried footsteps.

Then she appeared.

Vera.

Running down the stairs as if she had been waiting all day behind the curtains, listening for the sound of a car engine.

She rushed toward us, her long hair swinging, her fake concern plastered all over her face. The moment she reached Ethan, she leaned forward, touching his cheek gently as if she owned him.

Oh my gosh, Ethan!she gasped dramatically. Are you okay? How are you feeling? Why did you even go out with her?

Her eyes finally landed on his injured hand and she froze,

What happened?she demanded sharply. How did this happen? Whose fault is this?

I rolled my eyes. Of course. Always looking for someone to blame. Always needing to play the victim or the caring mate.

Ethan stiffened. He didn’t even look at her.

Veramove,he said, voice low. I’m not in the mood for this. I need to rest.”

Her eyes widened in shock.

What?she whispered. You’re sending me away?

I said I need to rest,Ethan repeated, his patience already thinning.

She stepped back slightly, her eyes darting between him, me, and the kids. Then tears pooled in her eyes, glistening dramatically.

Soit’s because of her?she whispered, her voice trembling. Because of this woman and her kids? That’s why you’ve abandoned me?

I felt something inside me snap at her words, but I kept my face blank.

Vera let out a shaky breath. Maybe maybe you don’t want this bond anymore,” she said weakly. Maybe I should leave.

She turned as if to walk away.

And that was it.

That was the line.

The one move she knew exactly how to use. The one emotional trigger she always pulled.

Ethan lifted his head sharply. Vera.”

She paused.

Come here,he said.

She came back immediately, a triumphant glint in her eyes before she quickly masked it with a fragile expression.

And then, just to stab me deeper, she didn’t stand beside him.

She sat.

On his lap.

Right on his lap, her arm hooking around his neck, her fingers brushing his jaw as she leaned her head on his shoulder.

She turned her face and gave me a slow, devilish smile.

I felt heat rise to my eyes, not tears, but anger. Pure, burning anger.

You are so disgusting,” I muttered under my breath. I hate you.”

I didn’t stay another second.

I turned and walked away.

I didn’t care how fast my feet carried me. I didn’t care that the hallway felt too quiet. I didn’t care that my wolf whimpered inside me, claws scraping in frustration and heartbreak.
