**TITLE: No More 302**
**Chapter 302**
**Raven’s POV**
The atmosphere was thick with anxiety as Alpha Ethan was whisked away to the park clinic. I found myself standing outside, surrounded by the kids, their small bodies pressed against me as if I were their only shield against the uncertainty that loomed ahead. Lucian was latched onto my waist, his grip tight and desperate, while Zara held my hand with such intensity that I could feel her little fingers quivering.
“Mummy, will Daddy be okay?” Lucian’s voice was barely a whisper, but the tremor in it pierced through me, and I could see the glistening tears threatening to spill from his eyes.
I knelt down to his level, my heart aching as I cupped his cheeks gently in my hands. “He will be okay,” I reassured him, my tone steady even though my heart was a storm of fear. “Daddy is a man. A very strong man. Nothing can keep him down for long.”
Their hesitant nods told me that they were clinging to my words, holding onto my promises more firmly than I could hold onto my own faith.
As the minutes dragged on, an hour slipped by—an hour filled with restless pacing, silent prayers, and watching the children oscillate between fear and fatigue. The weight of the moment pressed down on us, each tick of the clock amplifying the tension in the air.
Finally, the door swung open, and a nurse appeared in the hallway, her expression unreadable.
“You can go in now,” she said, her voice calm yet firm.
Without waiting for me, the kids bolted forward, their tiny feet echoing against the tiled floor as they hurried to follow the nurse down the quiet corridor. I chased after them, my heart racing with a mix of dread and hope, each step echoing the urgency of the moment.
As we entered his room, I caught sight of Alpha Ethan lying on the bed, propped up on pillows. Despite the pallor of his skin and the weariness etched across his features, the moment his gaze landed on the children, a radiant smile broke through the darkness. His eyes lit up, softening in a way that only they could evoke.
“Daddy!” they both exclaimed in unison, rushing into his open arms.
He embraced them, despite the pain and the stitches that marred his body, wrapping one arm around Lucian and the other around Zara.
“My angels,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “I’m right here.”
In that tender moment, something inside me twisted painfully, a mix of love and fear swirling within my chest.
Once the kids finally released him, he turned his gaze to me, and it felt as if the world had come to a standstill.
I stood at the foot of his bed, my hands trembling slightly. A tempest of anger, relief, and confusion roiled within me.
Why did he do it?
Why did he take the fall for me?
Why would he risk his safety knowing his wolf was struggling to heal?
“Why… why did you do that?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “Why would you take the fall for me? You got injured because of me, Ethan.”
His eyes softened, and a small, bittersweet smile curled at the corners of his lips. “Because I can’t allow the woman I love to get hurt.”
The weight of his words hit me like a blow to the chest.
Love.
He said, Love.
Before I could gather my thoughts, he continued, his voice steady despite the pain that laced his words. “I would take even more for you if the need arises. You know that.”
My breath caught in my throat. I looked away, unable to meet the raw truth in his eyes—it was too intense, too real, and far too dangerous.
“You shouldn’t have done that,” I murmured, my voice trembling. “You know your wolf is quiet. Healing is hard for you. Why would you risk this? You should’ve let me handle it. I don’t need your care. Save it for Vera.”
The moment her name slipped from my lips, I saw his expression darken, a flicker of anger tightening his jaw.
“Can’t we talk like two adults without you dragging Vera into everything?” he asked, his tone weary, almost pleading.
I scoffed, crossing my arms defiantly. “I won’t stop, not when you choose her over me and the kids. You were just being kind to me to get into my pants, and it’s not going to work.”
His eyes widened, a flash of pain crossing his face before he masked it.
“I’m grateful for what you did,” I continued, my heart racing. “But me and the kids… we’re leaving.”
I turned toward the corner of the room, where the kids were blissfully engaged in their own conversation, absorbed in a cartoon the nurse had given them. I walked towards them, ready to gather them up and leave this tumultuous moment behind.
