On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 254

The police concluded their interview and left. As soon as they were gone, Mrs. Gates stormed into the hospital room, furious that Daniel wasn’t pressing charges.

“If you can’t handle this, then let’s just get a divorce,” Daniel said, his voice laced with exhaustion.

The words hung in the air, and Mrs. Gates fell silent, as if a switch had been flipped. Finally, some peace and quiet. Daniel closed his eyes wearily.

Outside the hospital, Melissa and Catherine were having coffee.

“I can’t believe it didn’t work,” Melissa seethed.

“I told you, Jessica is ruthless,” Catherine said with a calm smile. “With her mental health history as a shield, she’s capable of anything.”

“She just got lucky this time,” Melissa grumbled. “It won’t happen again.”

“I’m starting to think it’s best to just leave her alone,” Catherine advised. “Maybe I should just keep my head down when she’s around. There’s something uncanny about her. She always manages to turn things around.”

“I refuse to believe anyone can be that lucky every single time,” Melissa retorted.

Catherine just smiled and said nothing. After finishing her coffee, she stood up. “Amy must have been frightened by all this. I should get back to her.”

“And I should go check on Daniel,” Melissa said.

She found Daniel alone in his room. “Daniel,” she began nervously.

He swallowed hard. “This is the last time.”

Melissa feigned ignorance. “What are you talking about? What’s the last time?”

“Don’t pretend you don’t know I was drugged because of that drink you brought me,” he said, his voice flat. “Melissa, if you keep playing these games, I won’t be able to protect you.”

“Is that true?” Lance asked, his voice skeptical.

“I’m not lying, Daddy! I’m really not!”

“Listen to me very carefully,” Lance said sternly. “If you tell me the truth now, I won’t be angry. But if I find out you’re lying, you will be in big trouble.”

It was the first time he had ever spoken to her with such severity. Amy froze, her little hands twisting nervously.

Just then, Catherine walked in and scooped her up. “What’s going on? Why are you yelling at Amy? She’s such a good girl.”

With her protector there, Amy’s confidence returned. “I am a good girl! You can’t yell at me! I’m not lying! You’re taking her side, Daddy! You believe Mommy but not me!”

Catherine soothed her with soft words, and Lance’s suspicion began to fade. “Did you come from the hospital? How’s Daniel?”
