If she tried to link the children’s allergic reactions to the missing labels, the entire process could drag on for months. She knew Catherine was behind it, but she had no proof. She hadn’t even been at the party. The mystery of the labels would likely remain unsolved, and Jessica didn’t want the four families to be stuck in limbo.
Seeing her sincere attitude, the families softened.
“Look, we’re not trying to extort you,” one parent said. “We can afford the medical bills. We were just terrified for our kids. My son was so dehydrated last night… watching him suffer like that… what parent could stand it? If it had happened to us, we could have toughed it out. You must understand how we feel.”
“I do,” Jessica said, nodding.
It was clear she genuinely wanted to resolve the situation, and the families were less inclined to be difficult. In the end, they only asked her to cover the children’s medical bills.
After leaving the hospital, Rebecca said, “Catherine definitely removed those labels, but you have no proof. She’s practically living at the Smith estate now; we’d never get our hands on their security footage. And even if we could, she’s smart enough to have covered her tracks. That woman is insane. You’re doing everything you can to divorce Lance and cut ties, yet she’s still gunning for you. What is her endgame?”
Jessica shook her head with a weary smile. “I have no idea.”
“By the way,” Rebecca added, “isn’t your appointment to finalize the divorce coming up soon?”
Jessica rubbed her forehead. “The day after tomorrow.”
“I hope nothing else goes wrong,” Rebecca sighed. “Let’s just pray Lance keeps his word this time.”
Rebecca watched her carefully. “Do you really think so?”
“Of course,” Jessica said with a faint smile. “He’s my friend. I want him to be happy.”

At The Kensington, Lance was building a sandcastle with his daughter.
“Daddy, aren’t you going to work today?”
