George explained that there was a masked ball tomorrow night, a rather important event that Mr. George had been invited to. For security reasons, Mr. George didn't want to attend himself and had asked George to go in his place. The only catch was that George had to find his own date.
He was asking if she could help him out.
Jessica stared at the last sentence, her mind flashing back to the kiss last night. The memory made it impossible to even think about facing him again.
She didn't reply.
Another message came through: [If you want to say no, that's fine. I'll figure something else out.]
Jessica chewed on her lip. She knew George was Mr. George's bodyguard, which meant his social circle was likely limited to people trying to get close to his boss. He probably didn't know many other women, which was why he’d asked her. If she refused…
She hesitated, then remembered what Catherine had said to her earlier today. Her fingers hovered over the screen.
Just as she was about to type her reply, Amy ran over. "Mommy, my doll stopped talking! Can you fix it for me?"
Amy pulled her away, and Jessica had no choice but to put her phone down and follow.
After tinkering with it for a while, Jessica sighed in frustration. "I don't think I can fix this, sweetie. How about we find someone who can?"
By the time Amy came back out, Jessica was waiting with the broken doll. They got into the car, and on the way, Jessica called the repair number on the back of the box. They directed her to a designated specialty store. This was no cheap toy; it was practically a luxury item, and its store was located in the high-end shopping district.
Soon, they arrived. The driver waited in the car while Jessica took Amy to find the store.
Amy spotted it first. "There it is! Between Cartier and Gucci! Let's go!"
She ran ahead, and Jessica followed. When they entered, Jessica showed the doll to a salesclerk. The clerk explained that it would likely need to be sent back to the manufacturer for repairs. But upon learning the child had just received it today, she offered to exchange it for a new one, free of charge.
