Kiara almost wanted to laugh—she had no idea where Jane got such audacity.
Eyeing her sister with icy detachment, Kiara said coldly, "If it's not good enough for you, then forget it." With that, she turned to leave.
Seeing that Kiara was serious, Jane panicked.
She hurried forward and said, "Fine, a hundred thousand it is! But honestly, that’s barely anything. Can’t you ask Uncle or Aunt for more? We’re sisters, after all. You wouldn’t just stand by and watch me die, would you?"
Though Jane despised Kiara, she had to admit her younger sister had one redeeming quality—she was softhearted.
Jane might scoff at such a trait, but in desperate times, it came in handy. Otherwise, she wouldn’t even know who else to turn to.
Kiara’s expression remained impassive as she studied Jane’s entitled demeanor.
She pulled a card from her bag and handed it over. "There’s a hundred thousand here. After this, we’re done."
Jane had never shown her kindness, never treated her like a sister.
But blood was still thicker than water.
This money would sever whatever remained between them. At least when they met their parents in the afterlife, Kiara could face them with a clear conscience.
Watching Kiara walk away, Jane’s face twisted with resentment. The way her sister had handed her the card—like some pitiful handout—made her blood boil. She bit her lip hard, glaring at Kiara’s retreating figure, her grip on the card so tight it nearly bent in her hand.
...
Kiara had no intention of letting Jane track her down again, so she decided to take advantage of the holiday to get away for a while.
Ariana assumed she simply wanted to go on a trip for fun and relayed the matter to her assistant, instructing her to make the arrangements. Knowing that Kiara was the CEO’s younger sister, the assistant tailored an itinerary featuring popular destinations among young travelers—all of them overseas, of course.
The cost, naturally, wouldn’t come out of Kiara’s pocket.
But the idea left her stunned. She had barely ventured beyond her own province, let alone traveled abroad. Her original plan had been to find some quiet spot within the country to unwind.
Ariana seemed to sense her hesitation and sighed faintly. "What you need is to broaden your horizons. Sending you abroad isn’t just about leisure—it’s an opportunity."
For Kiara, this was undoubtedly beneficial. A narrow perspective would only limit her potential.
Biting her lip, Kiara studied Ariana’s expression before finally giving a slow, hesitant nod. "Alright then."
Truthfully, what pained her most was the expense—even if she wasn’t footing the bill. Having grown up in an orphanage, Kiara valued money deeply and never spent recklessly. Seeing that a single trip abroad costs so much made her cringe at the extravagance.
Ariana was busy. Once the matter was settled, she immediately returned to the stack of documents before her. Not wanting to disturb her further, Kiara lingered awkwardly before finally murmuring, "Sister Ariana… I’ll head out first?"
Ariana glanced up, arching a brow. "Sure."
She wasn’t oblivious to the fact that Kiara seemed troubled. But with her current workload, she had little time for casual conversation. Besides, the look on Kiara’s face suggested only mild preoccupation—nothing urgent.
So she simply assumed it was a sign of her growing up.
At this age, she already had her fair share of worries and inner conflicts, so she didn't dwell on it too much.
...
Kiara was momentarily stunned.
It took her a good while to realize her aunt was talking about Irene—
That very bridesmaid who had shamelessly clung to her Brother-in-law outside the restroom during the Stone family’s eldest son’s wedding…
In an instant, Kiara’s brows furrowed deeply.
She looked at her aunt and said, "Auntie, why are you asking about her? She’s… well, not a good person." The memory of her aunt defending Irene at the hospital last time gave Kiara a headache. On their way back that day, she had intended to warn her aunt about that woman’s true nature—how she had tried to seduce Brother-in-law, among other things.
But during the ride home, her aunt had seemed preoccupied, lost in thought.
So Kiara hadn’t wanted to disturb her.
Later…
She had simply forgotten about it.
Now that her aunt had brought it up again, Kiara felt compelled to caution her immediately. She suspected that Irene still had her sights set on Brother-in-law and was now targeting Ariana’s family. Given her aunt’s kind-hearted nature, Irene might easily manipulate her to achieve some hidden agenda. After all, she did bear an uncanny resemblance to Ariana. If she buttered her aunt up, the older woman might truly fall for her schemes!
As for Georgia, the moment Kiara called Irene "not a good person," her eyes turned icy.
Her gaze toward Kiara now carried a hint of displeasure.
Frowning, she said sternly, "Kiara, I sent you to school to get an education, not to pick up the nasty habit of badmouthing people behind their backs."
