Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 126

Cecilia's eyes widened in shock. She yelled, "No! I'm not getting discharged! I'm not better yet! I can't leave the hospital! I'm Sean's girlfriend. You can't throw me out!"

Michael looked like he had just heard a joke. He tipped his chin at the guards behind him.

"Ms. Lambert, if there's anything else you want to say, you can wait until Dr. Frost has time to hear it," he said. "For now, please come this way."

The two guards stepped forward without hesitation. One took each arm and hauled her up from the floor, ignoring her screams and flailing.

A nurse moved quickly around the bed, scooping up Cecilia's personal belongings and stuffing them into a plastic bag.

The entire process was clean and efficient. There wasn't a trace of hesitation.

"Let go of me! Let go! I'm the patient!" Cecilia shrieked. "Sean won't let you get away with this!"

Her voice echoed down the corridor, but nobody paid attention.

Under a dozen curious, nosy stares, she was dragged all the way out of the inpatient wing and dumped by the curb in front of Jynston General Hospital.

The plastic bag that held everything she owned hit the ground at her feet with a dull thud.

Passersby slowed and glanced over, giving her strange looks.

When people saw her bald head, they flinched even more. It was as if she carried a contagious curse. They veered around her in a wide arc, desperate not to get too close.

Cecilia's hands clenched into fists. How could this be it?

The plan had almost worked. Annie should have been ruined, with no way to clear her name.

So, why was Cecilia the one thrown out like a stray dog in the end?

She struggled to reach for her phone in her pocket, but the world around her began to tilt. Darkness bled into her vision until, finally, everything went black.

Not long after Cecilia lost consciousness, a black sedan eased to a stop by the curb.

Two men dressed in black stepped out of the vehicle, lifted her off the pavement, and loaded her into the car.

Then, the car pulled away and disappeared into traffic.

Upstairs, Annie was unaware of any of this. She had just finished a call with Linda, giving her a brief rundown of what had happened in the ward.

After hanging up, she pushed open the door to Maeve's room. The air still carried a strong smell of disinfectant.

Maeve was awake and propped up against the headboard. Her face was still pale, but her eyes were clear.

Nicholas sat at her bedside, his expression still unsettled.

The moment the door opened, he turned around. When he saw Annie, he froze. Guilt flickered across his face.

Annie's gaze landed on Maeve. Seeing her awake and breathing eased the tight knot in Annie's chest.
