Night had settled in outside, but the lights at the police station still burned bright.
Sean sat on a cold metal chair. His shoulders slumped, and his eyes were rimmed with red. He had been there the entire day, dragged through one round of questioning after another.
Every passing minute felt like slow torture.
Footsteps echoed down the corridor, growing clearer.
He looked up and saw two familiar figures walking in behind a police officer.
Helena rushed ahead the moment she caught sight of Sean. The moment she saw how disheveled he looked, her eyes welled instantly. "Sean! My poor boy!"
She grabbed his arm and looked him over from head to toe, tears streaming down her cheeks. "How are you? Did they do anything to you? Did they hurt you?"
She broke down in uncontrollable tears.
Behind her, Easton walked in wearing a perfectly tailored black suit, his cool, distant expression making him seem completely out of place.
He softly cleared his throat.
Helena's sobs cut off at once.
She froze in place, as though an invisible hand had closed around her throat. She cast a fearful look over her shoulder before letting go of Sean and stepping back.
Easton glanced at Sean, a flicker of unmistakable disdain in his eyes.
Sean was truly a disgrace to the Frost family. Being hauled into a police station was utterly humiliating.
"What a disgrace," he said flatly. "Get up. We're leaving."
Easton finished the paperwork and turned to walk out without taking another glance at Sean.
"Hand in your resignation at the hospital," he said coldly. "From now on, stay home and remember your place as a Frost."
Sean shot to his feet, his face going even paler. "I'm not quitting!"
