Sylvara's Rebirth: A New Dawn for Abel novel Chapter 104

**Chapter 104: The Only Student**

“You don’t even have the initiative to eat properly. It’s no surprise you’re still a nobody, just the head of the Agriculture Department,” Sylvara taunted, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Aslan, the so-called nobody, felt a surge of anger bubbling within him, nearly sending his fork flying across the table.

“Finished,” he muttered under his breath, his frustration palpable.

With a playful grin, Sylvara pushed a few dishes she had gathered closer to him, fully aware that he would never actually toss them. “You really need to show some respect, Aslan. That includes our elders and even the younger ones like me. Control your temper, will you?”

Aslan’s gaze shifted from the food to Sylvara, his irritation boiling over. “You and that old man took everything! It’s not fair!”

His tone had shifted dramatically; “Mr. Knowles” had transformed into “that old man.”

It was almost miraculous that Malcolm, the subject of Aslan’s ire, didn’t collapse in shock right then and there.

Sylvara smirked, a glint of mischief in her eyes. “Exactly! As a devoted student, I must keep pace with my mentor. If I don’t follow his advice and take my meals seriously, I would be a disgrace to him.”

Aslan felt a surge of indignation coursing through him, like blood rushing to his chest. “You two…”

“Enough chatter. Just eat,” Sylvara interrupted, shoving a rib into his mouth, cutting off his protests. “No talking at the table. Just eat.”

With a fierce determination, Aslan bit into the rib, his cheeks bulging as he chewed. In his mind, he imagined the meat was Sylvara, the insufferable little menace that had turned his life upside down.

Malcolm, unfazed by Aslan’s plight, finished cleaning his teeth, rinsed his mouth, and pulled out two documents from his spatial button. “Listen up, sweetheart,” he said, his voice softening as he addressed Sylvara. “This first one is proof that you’re advancing to sophomore year. I’ve already signed it; you just need to add your signature and have Drenvar countersign it. Then, you’ll officially be a second-year student.”

He continued, “And this one certifies that you represent the entire Culinary Department. You’ll wield the same authority as I do. Make sure to see Drenvar about changing your badge. With that, you’ll have unrestricted access to The Fifth Military Academy.”

Aslan’s appetite vanished in an instant. The meat in his mouth turned tasteless, and he found himself unable to swallow. “Mr. Knowles, this is favoritism! Am I still your student or not?”

Malcolm didn’t even glance in Aslan’s direction. “Sweetheart, don’t pay attention to his nonsense. You’re my only student now. How could a shameless freeloader who scrounges meals ever be considered my student?”

The label of “shameless freeloader” struck Aslan hard, piercing through his heart like a dagger.

“Mr. Knowles, you’re right. How could a shameless freeloader ever be your student?” Sylvara chimed in, taking the two documents and joining Malcolm in his disdain for Aslan. “So, I’m your only student now, right?”

As she looked at the adorable old man before her, she couldn’t help but feel a swell of pride. He was at least a Level-7 Plan Healer, a position of immense respect.

Being his student was a significant victory. If her cover ever got blown, she knew he would have her back without question.
