Sylvara's Rebirth: A New Dawn for Abel novel Chapter 138

**Chapter 138: The Good Cook**

Leiya rubbed his arm with a grimace, lowering his voice as if the very walls might overhear him. “Why does it feel like she’s peeling my skin off every time she skins that winged serpent?” His tone was a mix of annoyance and disbelief, as if the act itself was a personal affront.

Zolensky, ever the pragmatist, clicked his tongue in disapproval. “General Raghul, stop projecting your fears onto the situation. If she were to peel you, she wouldn’t even need a knife. One kick from her, and your head would pop like a balloon.” His words dripped with sarcasm, but there was an underlying camaraderie in his jest.

Bane, eager to join in on the mockery, chimed in with a dismissive wave. “You’re not nearly as tough to take down as a Swarmborn, and let’s be honest, you’re not as thick-skinned as that winged serpent. One kick would be overkill; half a kick would suffice.” His laughter echoed, lightening the mood even as it targeted Leiya.

Leiya shot them both a furious glare, his finger jabbing toward them in protest. “As if either of you would survive a kick from her! You’re all just a bunch of trash.” His indignation was palpable, a mixture of frustration and a desperate need to defend himself.

“I’m going to have a word with Ms. Feywin,” he declared, turning away from the banter. Carlos, emboldened by his previous encounter with Sylvara, seized the moment. He figured Agares wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon and dashed over, squatting beside Sylvara with an eager grin plastered across his face. “Ms. Feywin, remember me? I’m Carlos!”

Sylvara glanced at him briefly, her focus unwavering as she set her skinning knife aside. Grabbing the edge of the wing’s hide with both hands, she replied casually, “I do recall. Weren’t you on Kolar planet? What brings you here?” Her tone was nonchalant, but her eyes sparkled with curiosity.

The serpent’s wings were devoid of feathers, only tough scales and massive bones formed the structure. It was a marvel how such a creature could even sustain itself in the air. Yet, to Carlos’s surprise, they were surprisingly easy to pull away. With one determined yank, a large piece of the hide ripped free, revealing bloody bone and flesh that looked both taut and oddly tender.

Carlos hesitated for a moment, then shifted the conversation. “But why are you here? And why are you dressed in Fourth Military Academy gear?” His curiosity was piqued, and he leaned in closer, eager for answers.

Sylvara continued her task without missing a beat. “We’re in training. It’s a joint freshman exercise involving all five academies. I skipped from first year to second, so technically, I’m considered an upperclassman. We swapped uniforms with other academies to help with the initiation of the newbies.” Her words flowed effortlessly, a mix of pride and casualness.

From first year straight to the second—no wonder she was Auren and Aslan’s prized student. That kind of rapid advancement was nothing short of extraordinary!

Carlos’s mind raced as he processed this information, a realization dawning on him. “So, all the freshmen are here?” His excitement bubbled over. “That explains why Commander Vaelor is hunting Level-6-and-above mutant beasts on this planet. It wasn’t just for our training; it was to ensure Mrs. Vaelor’s safety!”

Sylvara froze mid-rip, her brow furrowing in confusion. “Mrs. Vaelor?”

“Yes! Commander Vaelor’s wife is a freshman at The Fifth Military Academy,” Carlos exclaimed, his enthusiasm palpable. “She’s an amazing cook, cute as a button, and acts all sweet and delicate. Her voice? It’s soft and lovely—just a pleasure to listen to.”

Sylvara blinked, taken aback by the sudden shift in the conversation.

Can cook?

Sure.

Acts sweet?

That’s accurate, but only around my bargain-bin husband, right?

Delicate?
