Sylvara's Rebirth: A New Dawn for Abel novel Chapter 139

**Chapter 139: You’re Amazing**

Veyric carefully placed the dry branches he had gathered onto the ground, his brow furrowed in concentration as he turned to Sylvara. “Is this enough?” he asked, his voice a mixture of hope and uncertainty.

Sylvara’s gaze drifted beyond him, landing on Agares, and a warm smile crept across her face. “With so many people here and such a massive snake, do you really think this is enough?” she teased, her tone light and playful.

Veyric’s eyes swept over the throng of thirty or more members of the Hunting Legion, then landed on his idol, Commander Agares. A frown creased his forehead as he shook his head decisively. “Nope. I’ll go get more,” he declared, his competitive spirit igniting as he took off in a sprint, determination etched into his features.

Sylvara rose to her feet, her foot coming down with a forceful stomp on the ground. The earth beneath her yielded, forming a shallow pit that seemed to beckon for the snake hide she held. With a swift motion, she tossed the hide into the pit, watching it settle with a satisfying thud.

With a snap of her fingers, a branch, previously intertwined with the vine that had suspended the winged serpent, detached itself and slithered over to her. It wrapped around the half-skinned wing, lifting it effortlessly into the air.

Sylvara turned slightly, casting a glance at Agares. His expression was rigid, his ear tips tinged with a faint blush that made him look almost innocent—adorably so. She decided to play the role of the charming actress. “Your Highness, your wife learned her culinary skills from me. Care to sample my cooking?”

Agares’s dark eyes deepened with a hint of intrigue, yet he took a step back, maintaining a polite distance. “Sounds good, Ms. Feywin. Thank you,” he replied, his voice smooth yet distant, as if he were still held captive by his thoughts.

“No problem at all. I’ve known your wife for quite some time,” Sylvara continued, her voice laced with enthusiasm. “Ever since she registered her marriage with you, she’s been nothing but full of praise for you in our conversations.” Inside, she cringed at her own words, feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over her.

Her bargain-bin husband, when it came to matters of the heart, was like a pristine slab of white marble—unblemished and flawless, devoid of any imperfections. A man like him, once his emotions ignited, would burn with an intensity that could light up the darkest nights.

Agares’s long fingers curled slightly, a flicker of curiosity crossing his features. “Is that so?”

Sylvara bent down to retrieve the skinning knife she had dropped, turning her back to him as she resumed peeling the hide from the wing. She couldn’t help but launch into a spirited self-praise. “Absolutely! She says you meet every single one of her criteria in a partner. She considers getting registered with you a stroke of luck she never saw coming.”

Agares’s voice shifted, taking on a rougher edge. “No. I am not a good match. I am not a good husband or a worthy choice. But she is a good wife.”

He thought of her sweetness. The way she called him honey in that soft, sugary voice that melted his heart.

He thought of her anger, how she would throw his ID into a blocklist when she was upset, her frustration palpable.

He thought of her vulnerability, how she reached out to him like a delicate bundle, seeking shelter in his strength.
