Chapter 166 Revealing the Bet
Running through the forest.
Half an hour later.
She heard a sharp bang-a single gunshot.
Her mental energy flared outward in an instant.
Finished
About 0.6 miles away, she sensed her bargain-bin husband’s subordinates busy harvesting
heads.
She kicked up her pace and headed straight for them.
This distance meant nothing-in the blink of an eye, she was there.
When she arrived, Sylvara saw Leiya and the others locked in with a cluster of instructors.
Looked like sixty of them.
Leiya’s side had just over thirty men.
They’d already knocked more than half of the instructors flat; the remaining half were barely hanging on.
Sylvara watched from the side for a moment, a plan forming. She snapped the Smokewillow
out.
The whipping vine shot forward and dove into the ground. In an instant, it branched into countless thin willows, coiling around the ankles of the instructors who were still standing.
The instructors’ hearts jolted. They had no idea what was lurking under that thick layer of soil, grabbing at their ankles, so they yanked out their combat knives and stabbed downward.
But their blades hadn’t even touched the Smokewillow yet, when the vine surged up out of the ground, flipping them outright and hanging them from the trees.
The instructors tried to raise their guns and knives to cut the vine at their ankles, and Sylvara whipped the Smokewillow backhand across their hands.
Pain seared across their fingers, hot and sharp, forcing them to loosen their grip on guns and knives alike.
Veyric let out a yelp, then shouted in pure excitement. He actually remembered what Sylvara had told him before, yelling, “Ms. Feywin, you’re insane but in a good way! I’ll go collect the

badges!”

The instructors dangling upside down were only about a yard off the ground, which made harvesting badges insanely convenient for Veyric.
Leiya casually ripped the badge off a “corpse instructor” nearby, then stepped over and handed it to Sylvara. “Ms. Feywin, so now we’re marked as the targets? Your training exercise is all about collecting shoulder badges?”
Sylvara crouched down, stripping the jacket off one of the instructors while she answered- and, of course, sold out Blake in the process. “Yeah. For us, it’s all about the badges and ID plates. But you guys really need to watch your backs. This year’s training lead is General Kenobia.
“He’s already notified all thirty-one thousand people on the planet that the biggest anomaly is the Commander.”
“I’m sorry, what?” Carlos blurted. “General Kenobia’s stuffed and picking fights now? Calling out the Commander by name and telling everyone to go after him?”
Sylvara yanked the instructor’s jacket off and tossed it to Leiya, then pointed at the comm on her own ear as she stood. “What would I even get out of lying to you? If you don’t believe me, look-every one of these instructors has a comm on their ear. Grab one each and listen for yourselves.”
Leiya moved fast-like a proper bandit-snatching a comm off one of the “corpses” and clipping it to his own ear. The moment it connected, the channel blasted in with calls to hunt down the Eagle.
“Yeah, yeah, Ms. Feywin’s right. Mr. Vaelor’s totally exposed now. He’s not some anonymous anomaly anymore-he’s the Eagle!”
Seeing that they finally believed her, Sylvara kept pushing. “Right now, we need to infiltrate the enemy ranks. Swap into their uniforms and take their comms, or you’re just walking targets.”
The second the words left her mouth-
The Hunting Legion deputy generals all dropped to work, stripping the “dead instructors” at record speed. In less than a minute, all thirty-plus men were wearing instructor uniforms with comms clipped neatly to their ears.
Veyric had just finished stripping badges. When he looked up and saw everyone else in instructor gear, he ran over, rubbing his hands together, eyes shining. “Ms. Feywin, should I grab an instructor uniform too? I’ve never worn one before-it looks so cool.”
“If you want to change, then change. You don’t need my permission,” Sylvara said with a laugh. “But there is something I want to ask you all.”
