As Sylvara was roughly shoved into the cramped quarters of the aircraft, a wave of apprehension washed over Seraphine. She feared that her niece, in a fit of panic, might attempt to flee. Without a moment’s hesitation, she seized the metal chain affixed to the seat and secured Sylvara tightly.

Sylvara blinked in bewilderment, her gaze fixated on the cold, unyielding chain that confined her. A flicker of defiance sparked within her; she knew she possessed the strength to break free or even bring the aircraft crashing down in flames. Yet, amidst the turmoil of her thoughts, confusion reigned supreme.

Wasn’t she merely on her way to meet her so-called husband?

Why was she being restrained like a criminal when all she intended was to comply with the demands of her new life?

“Aunt Seraphine, what’s going on?” Sylvara’s voice was soft, almost pleading, as she searched her aunt’s eyes for answers. She paused for a moment, then added with a sugary sweetness, “I promise I won’t run away. I’ll be good, I swear.”

“Nothing’s wrong. Just wait here for a moment,” Seraphine replied with an unsettling calmness, her voice devoid of any warmth. She closed the aircraft’s door with a deliberate finality and turned away, her heart racing with the weight of the secret she bore.

She could not divulge the alarming news she had just received from the Emperor’s guard. The guard had delivered a chilling message: Agares was coming to seek a divorce. Along with this, the Emperor had issued a stern warning—if the Mordrels consented to the divorce, their entire family would be banished to a desolate trash planet, a fate worse than death.

Even if that wretched girl intended to marry Agares, who could say whether she would remain steadfast once she laid eyes on him?

In a desperate bid to prevent the Mordrels from facing exile, Seraphine knew she had to whisk Sylvara away from Centria. If Agares couldn’t find her, the divorce would remain unfiled, and their family would be spared.

“Mom, weren’t you supposed to take that trash to meet His Highness Agares at the gate?” Miralys’s voice rang out, sharp and accusatory, as she pounded on Seraphine’s door. “What are you doing here?”

Without waiting for an invitation, Seraphine burst into her daughter’s room, hastily shoving her daily essentials into a spatial button. “You’re heading to school early today. Take Sylvara with you,” she ordered, her tone brooking no argument.

Miralys’s face contorted in disbelief. “Why? She’s married to Agares now, isn’t she? Why must I babysit her?”

The very idea made her stomach churn. I absolutely refuse to be a chaperone for that worthless girl! Zephyrion just messaged me, inquiring about that useless freeloader.

Seraphine’s eyes narrowed, and a malicious smile crept across her lips. “His Highness Agares doesn’t wish to marry her and is coming to finalize the divorce. The Emperor has decreed that if we agree to the divorce, we’ll be exiled to some garbage planet. So, you will take her to school.”

“I’ve made arrangements there. You two will enroll as new students. During field training, find a way to ensure she meets a tragic end at the hands of alien beasts, or make her life so miserable that she’ll wish for death. She’s so weak and useless that I’m certain she’ll end her own life if pushed hard enough.”
