**Chapter 55: Golden Ticket**
Relos gently lifted the hand resting on his shoulder, the weight of the moment pressing down on him as he turned to face the Empress. “Empress… the Mordrels have played me for a fool. The one who is married to Agares isn’t Miralys Mordrel; it’s a girl named Sylvara Mordrel. I came across the note she wrote to Agares, and curiously… I find that I harbor no anger towards the Mordrels for their deception.”
It was true—his heart felt strangely unburdened. As long as Sylvara had chosen to marry willingly, as long as her heart belonged to Agares, every lie seemed to dissolve into insignificance.
The Empress stood before him, her beauty striking and sharp, as if carved from the very essence of authority itself. Her brows arched with an innate power, and her voice, seasoned by years of commanding respect, held a husky tone that resonated with strength. Her violet eyes sparkled with a blend of nobility and a hint of ruthlessness. With a physique similar to Relos’s, she stepped closer, her grip firm as she squeezed his hand, her presence both comforting and commanding. “This is a fortunate turn of events. When you granted Agares the authority to sign the three-part agreement concerning the Level-7 Plant Healer, he refrained from doing so. The Elder Council and the Assembly can no longer pursue an open investigation into the healer.”
“They will undoubtedly maneuver in the shadows,” she continued, her voice steady and resolute. “And when they do, their first target will be the bride His Majesty personally selected for Agares—Miralys Mordrel.”
A strategic glint flickered in her eyes. “We will turn their assumptions against them. We must conceal the truth that Agares wed Sylvara, not Miralys. Let the Empire continue to believe that he is married to Miralys.”
Relos nodded, absorbing her words. “And what of the Mordrels? They must be held accountable for their actions.”
“You can have the royal guards apply a bit of pressure on them,” the Empress suggested, her tone unwavering. “They are already guilty and filled with fear regarding you. They will not dare to bring the swapped-bride incident into the light. This way, Sylvara remains protected.”
As they walked deeper into the palace, Relos couldn’t help but hold onto the Empress’s hand, seeking reassurance. “Sylvara Mordrel… where did she come from? Who is she? I find myself utterly perplexed.”
With a flick of her wrist, the Empress produced the box of dried lemons that Relos had left behind in the palace. “Your Majesty, whoever she may be, she is certainly not a true Mordrel.”
Relos frowned, his brow furrowing as he glanced at the shaking box. “What leads you to that conclusion?”
The Empress met his gaze, her eyes unwavering. “The Mordrels, if we were to be diplomatic, are an ancient noble house. To be blunt, they are nobles by title alone, dressed in finery but living like beggars. If Sylvara truly belonged to the Mordrels and had knowledge of the Level-7 Plant Healer, do you honestly believe they would keep such a treasure hidden? Would they not exploit her to restore their dwindling fortunes?”
Relos pondered her insight, the pieces of the puzzle slowly falling into place. “You make a compelling argument. So…”
The Empress’s expression shifted to one of determination, bold and confident, embodying the spirit of a born leader. “I have made a decision. I will attend the Fifth Military Academy as an instructor for the new recruits… and I shall meet this Sylvara in person.”
Meanwhile, in the early hours of the morning, Sylvara stirred awake, the soft light filtering through her window. She lay in bed, her optical computer resting beside her, the screen flickering with notifications.
Her husband, the one she jokingly referred to as her “bargain-bin spouse,” had received her messages, yet not a single reply had graced her screen. A long, tragic sigh escaped her lips as she contemplated her situation.
The path to winning her husband’s heart felt like an arduous journey—endless, bleak, and riddled with obstacles.
