**Chapter 82: Sweetness in the Spotlight**
Every eye in the conference room suddenly fixed on Carlos, the intensity of their stares sending an unsettling shiver down his spine. He instinctively raised a foot, ready to make a hasty retreat.
“Thinking of escaping? Not so fast,” a voice cut through the tension, and the atmosphere shifted dramatically. Quick, furtive glances exchanged among the group turned into a menacing energy as they closed in around him. The sound of knuckles cracking echoed ominously, and a palpable thrill coursed through the crowd. “Colonel Kael, you’re the one who followed Mr. Vaclor back to Centria. As his adjutant, you must have seen his wife at some point.”
“Come on, just pull up a photo. Show us what she looks like, and we’ll let you walk out of here,” another chimed in, the anticipation in their voices almost palpable.
Carlos was no stranger to confrontation; he could hold his own in a one-on-one fight. But facing an entire room of hostile gazes was an entirely different beast. He felt the pressure mounting, and before he knew it, he relented. “Honestly, I don’t have a clear image of her in my mind. But I do know that Mrs. Vaelor is the one on Starnet who’s been cozy with the Level-7 Plant Healer, the user known as Sylvaracorpse.”
A heavy silence descended upon the group, their expressions shifting from aggression to intrigue.
Meanwhile, Sylvara had just received a thrilling promise from Agares, a revelation that felt like unwrapping a long-desired piece of candy. The sweetness of that moment buoyed her spirits, inspiring her to share her joy with the world.
With a gleam of excitement in her eyes, she decided it was time to start a livestream and whip up some candy. She quickly navigated to the Starnet marketplace, her heart racing as she searched for sugarcane.
What she found were mutated canes, towering and thick, each one stretching an impressive 30 feet into the sky. Her eyes sparkled with delight as she purchased ten of them, pot and all, along with a robotic assistant to help her.
The robot sprang to life, eagerly tearing into the soil of her dorm villa’s courtyard, preparing the ground for her sweet endeavor. Once the sugarcane arrived, she planted nine of the impressive stalks, their towering heights transforming her yard into a miniature grove, making the space feel far less desolate.
Feeling accomplished, she retreated inside, excitement bubbling within her. She grabbed one of the canes, chopped it into manageable pieces, and took a bite. Immediately, disappointment washed over her; the mutation had dulled its sweetness to a mere fraction of what she had hoped for. It was suitable for boiling sugar, but the process was going to be laborious.
Determined not to waste any time, she resolved to speed up the growth process.
Holding a cane in her hand, she focused intently, channeling her energy into it. Miraculously, three new canes sprouted before her eyes, emerging from the earth.
They were no longer the towering giants of before, now standing at just under three feet—much more manageable, roughly the height of a person.
With a sense of urgency, she messaged the Starnet livestream administrator, informing him of her intent to go live.
He hesitated, his voice tinged with nervousness. “Maybe you should hold off for a bit? The Level-7 Plant Healer’s lemons are going on sale soon. If you stream now, no one will tune in.”
It suddenly dawned on her that today was indeed Saphron’s lemon sale day. She responded with confidence, “It’s perfectly fine. Let him sell his lemons; I’ll do my stream. There’s no conflict here. In fact, I can even demonstrate another way to enjoy lemons.”
The administrator sighed, conceding. “All right then. I’ll set up your promo.”
Sylvara nodded appreciatively and opened her stream, her heart racing with anticipation.
Her first livestream attracted a modest audience of three viewers. By the second, she was astonished to find that the numbers had surged to over a billion. Now, she had just over a hundred viewers tuning in.
What struck her as odd was the fact that among these viewers, there were about ten usernames that all began with “Lady.”
