When we were in the bathhouse, a warrior came into the bathhouse. I almost completely lost my temper with him. I have no problem letting them use it. But it is my bathhouse. They know to ask me first; if they can not find me, they need to mindlink to or call me. I

was furious that he did not communicate with me. I was angry that he saw my mate naked and scared her. Vanessa got scared when I growled, and I ensured she understood it

was not at her. I was grateful when she touched my thigh to let me know she was OK.

It did not go as planned in the bathhouse. I wanted to create a romantic place for her. I had planned on touching her more places than just her back. But after TJ interrupted us,

it ruined the mood. I will deal with him later. It wasn’t the fact that he came into the

bathhouse unannounced, but the fact that Vanessa was there naked with me. She has not

been formally introduced to anyone, and nobody knows she is a mute. Also, they will have to understand that she is fragile right now. She will get stronger.

My heart almost stopped when I saw blood running down her leg. I should have known

better than to let her walk. That was my stupidity. I rushed inside and to our bedroom.

The doctor was already headed this way to check her wounds. But he hurried over when I

called him to tell him what happened. I had her lying on the bed with a towel pressed against her back. Why was she not healing? Most of us heal in a day or two, depending on the severity of the wound. But her wounds looked like they had just happened. I knew she was not human. So why was she not healing? I needed to get to the bottom of this.

She was lying on the bed, and the doctor was working on her. I knew she was in pain, but again, why was she not healing? I had no idea. The doctor finished bandaging her.

Alpha, can I speak to you?”

I gently covered her up, and she had fallen asleep.

“Yes, Doctor.”

“She is not healing the way she needs to because she has been poisoned.”

That is when I lost my temper. I let out a growl so loud that it shook the house. I’m sure my whole pack felt it.

How can you tell that she has been poisoned?”

‘I took the liberty to run some blood tests the other day at the hospital.”

I was glad that he did. I saw him draw blood at the hospital.

“Someone has been putting silver in her food or injecting her.”

Her parents were trying to kill her. That was no surprise. Considering what I knew from

the doctor already, and now this. They were genuinely going to be hurt.

As you see, I have put another IV in that will flush the silver out of her body.”

How long have you suspected something was off?”

“For a long time.”

That could explain why she has not shifted yet. If silver is suppressing your wolf, you will not shift into your wolf. I was grateful to the doctor.

What kind of diet does she need?”

He then explained that since she has not eaten a lot, she will need to start with small meals, then work her way to bigger meals. She will also need lots of water and Gatorade. Most people think that, because we are werewolves, we don’t need regular food like normal people. While in human form, we need the same calories and nutrition as humans. In wolf form, we can eat raw meat. We eat at least three times more calories than humans. She has not had that. She was skin and bones. I knew she would fill out nicely when we got her to eat the necessary calories.

I let her rest, and the doctor and I reviewed her treatment. After getting all the information I needed, the doctor left. I took this time to get some paperwork done. The doctor informed me that she would be asleep for a while. I needed to go over our finances and see where things were. We run a nightclub and a protection business. Humans employ us as bodyguards. We also run other companies, some of which are not legal. But we will get to that later.

My secretary, Marsha, was already in the office. I could tell she was busy preparing things and had gone shopping. The bags were sitting by my desk. I had picked some things out on the mall’s website for Vanessa. I was not sure what clothes she had in her pack. What

little clothes she had on the night I rescued her told me she did not have any. Marsha had turned nineteen last year and met TJ that night at her shifting ceremony.

Hey Alpha, the things you wanted for the new Luna are on your desk.”

“You’re welcome.”

Also, have TJ come to my office. I have a bone to pick with him.”

It would be an apology and a warning–nothing major. I was always calling him into my office. She did not seem worried. The last thing I wanted her to do was worry about her mate or what might happen to him.

‘Yes, what is your question?”

Tj told me that the Luna is all skin and bones.”

Word was spreading quickly about her condition. This evening, I will announce the whole pack.

“Yes, Marsha, she is not well.”

I could see she was close to crying. She knew that she must have been mistreated. Part of what we did that was not always legal was to rescue people from bad packs that had mistreated them. Interfering with a pack’s way of handling its members was illegal. But I would not allow it. I had permission from the king of werewolves to do what I felt necessary to protect people. The king of werewolves is my father. But nobody knew that he was from the shadow pack. Also, nobody knew that only ancient blood could become the king.

That is why my father was cursed, because he upset the king of witches. The king of

witches tried to overthrow my grandfather, but it did not work. So he cursed family. I

wonder why he had cursed her family. The king of the werewolves was coming today. I knew him, and the queen would be thrilled to see I had found my true mate. I would inform them of the situation. Right now, I’m going to check on my mate. I could feel that she was restless.
