Chapter 48
Alfreds POV
I was not happy to be woken up because my mother had a party planned, but I will deal with it. Now that my curse is broken, I feel stronger this morning. Not to mention my Luna’s actions last night. She wanted to make love all night. I was happy to oblige, but she must have been sore this morning. She needed the downtime more than I did. I will speak to my mother about it. But right now, I will humor my mother and go to the traditional birthday morning party. But this evening, I will be with my mate, just the two of us. Mac told me that Vanessa had planned a cake for me. I told him to put it out there,
too.
But I will make sure that it gets put aside so that way Vanessa and I can enjoy it. She is getting stronger and more beautiful every day. After everything is done today, I’m going to visit my brothers. I have not seen them in a while. They stay to themselves, but they are there when I need them. They were still part of this pack. Now that my curse is broken, I’m going to find the witch that cast the spell. I know that I can get the king of witches to help me. He was not the one who cast the spell on my family. He did curse Vanessa and her siblings.
I bet he was not expecting them ever to break the curse. Vanessa, especially, maybe he knew that she was rumored to be the White Wolf. As I said, the first time she shifted, it was so brief that I didn’t even really see it. I’m hoping to get to the white wolf tonight. Also, Leon is aching to meet his mate. He has been waiting patiently for that. He knows that tonight is her first shift without it being forced or out of fear. She is in a hurry to shift. I wish that weren’t the case. But she is. It is true that when we shift, we heal faster, and our wolves get stronger.
Her wolf has been keeping her alive and needs time to rest; she also needs to be released. We walked into the dining room, and it was all set up. In the middle of the table was the giant cake that my mother had always made. The only difference this year was at the top of the cake, there were two figurines. A male and a female because I have found my luna. I was grateful that my mother made every birthday special. Next to that one was the smaller cake that Vanessa had Mac make for me. My mother was going to put that one aside. I wanted it out so she could see it.
We all ate cake and had some coffee with it. Then, it was time to eat some real food. I was grateful it was mainly protein. I had too many sweets. We finished eating breakfast, and
then I wanted to start Vanessa’s training today. I had her wear a workout outfit. I had planned on going on a brisk walk around the training grounds. We excused ourselves and went for that walk. I did not have to walk fast at all. The muscles in her legs were making it hard for her to keep up with me. I was walking at my usual pace. I wasn’t walking fast
at all. She was shorter than me.
I could tell she was out of shape. I knew why she was out of shape. She has never trained. My poor Luna was not even allowed to get into shape. Her father was all but dead. I did not give him more than a few days. When we got back to the house, she was sweaty. Before we had sat down to eat breakfast, I had asked Stacey and Chris to be there for this shift. I already knew Chris would keep his back turned until I said it was OK. I had also asked the doctor to be present to monitor her. She chose the pond because the water was ice–cold. If her body started to overheat again, we could cool her down quickly.
I had her take off her clothes. She did not want them shredded. She screamed that it hurt when she started to shift. That was normal. After she finished shifting, there standing in front of me was the white wolf. She has beautiful pure white fur and purple eyes. The prophecy was true. She was the descendant of the moon goddess. Her family was that old. She explained to me that she had been keeping Vanessa alive all these years. She was glad to be let out. She was in wolf form for about five to ten minutes before Sasha needed to rest.
Even though she is the descendant of the moon goddess, she is weakened by keeping Vanessa alive. She would need to be let out frequently to gain her strength as well. I would have Leon work with her. After she shifted back to her human form, we sat in the pond for a few minutes, allowing her to adjust to what her body had gone through. Surprisingly, she did not burn up. The doctor checked her over and ensured she was OK. I then carried her back to the house. It was early afternoon now. Vanessa needed a nap, and I had things to do. Our mating ceremony was in a week, and I needed to get things ordered.
I have already decided that everything will be white to match Vanessa’s dress. Jaques is coming tomorrow for a fitting. I want to be there, but I don’t want to see it before the big day. My suit was already made. I have also reserved a resort for just her and me. My father will stay here to run the pack. He is going home for a few days to check on the palace and see how it is going. My mother is staying here. We walked into the house, and my mother already knew what had happened even before anything was said. She started preparing a feast and made her special tea. It was nothing but herbs, and it helped with any pain she would have.
Even though she still had pain medicine from the doctor, she did not like taking it
because it made her drowsy. I also didn’t want her taking them because they were too strong for her body weight. The herbal tea would help, and she would be fine. It would knock her out for a few hours, but she had a big morning. She is getting stronger every day. She started taking her vitamins this morning now that she can eat more food. Her health is improving every day. When we got into the bedroom, I sat her down on the bed and started a warm shower for her. I then went and got warm towels and another clean sweat outfit. She liked them. I assumed it was because they were soft and warm. I then got undressed and joined her in the shower.
