Chapter 49
Vanessa POV
We finished our shower, and when we got out of the bathroom, a tray with a cup of hot
tea was on the bed. Additionally, there were two plates of meat, cheese, and fruit. It all looked delicious. I was hungry. I thought after the big breakfast I had, it would be a while before I got hungry. But now I was starving. Shifting sure makes you hungry. Trying to keep up with Alfred was also a lot of work. His stride was giant, just like everything about him. He was huge all over. I was exhausted. But that was a good thing. He handed me a vitamin. I did not like the way they tasted. But the doctor wanted me to start taking them.
It was better than the alternative of being hooked up to IVs for vitamin infusions. I would rather take the vitamins than that. After taking the vitamin, I got dressed. Alfred was so sweet he pulled the blankets down for me and helped me crawl into bed. He then handed me a plate. It was filled to the brim with food. I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat it all. There was a lot of food for me. He scarfed his plate down. I ate half of what was on my plate and put the rest aside.
Are you OK, little one?”
“Yes, I’m full.”
“That is good you’re eating more than before, and that’s a good thing.”
His statement was true. I was eating more than I had in a long time. I could tell I was gaining weight. My cheekbones were not as noticeable. My ribs did not show as much as they used to. I loved how I looked. I was filling out like I needed to. The weight was going where it needed to. My boobs were getting bigger too. The bras that Alfred had bought me were starting to fit right.
Sweetheart, I have some things to do while you nap.”
“My mother will be in to check on you. I will also be locking the door when I leave.”
“OK, babe.”
He kissed me and then locked the door and left. I lay in bed for a while and sipped the tea that his mother made. It tasted so good. Almost instantly, the pain began to subside, and I started to feel drowsy. But I knew it was because of the herbs she had put in the tea.
Alfred had told me about it. That she had been present for all the shifting ceremonies, and she had made it for everyone. I knew nothing was in it but herbs. It tasted great. It had honey in it. I fell asleep. When I woke up next, his mother was sitting at the end of my bed.
“How are you feeling, sweetheart.”
“I feel good, your majesty.”
Vanessa, please don’t call me that.”
“Either call me Mom or Michelle.”
“OK.”
She then left. I got out of bed and found a pair of slippers. The door was opened, and I decided to explore this beautiful house. Since I’ve been here, I haven’t had a chance to explore at all. I have been stuck in bed for the most part. Going on the date I had with Alfred was the first time that I had been outside in a while. As I walked down the hall, people bowed to me, and I nodded my head in response. I walked into the main room. It looked beautiful. The walls were painted a beautiful Violet. Something that I have noticed is that each room was painted a different color.
Michelle was sitting in a chair in front of the fireplace. It was a little chilly.
Are you OK, sweetie?”
“Yes, I did not want to stay in the bedroom by myself.”
“I understand that, my dear.”
She was so sweet. How could she have been through everything that she has had? I know she had to watch three of her four sons stay wolves for the rest of her life. Additionally, I know she has witnessed numerous instances of bloodshed and war. That was part of our lives, though. She patted the arm of a chair next to her, and I sat down. We sat there in a comfortable silence. There was no need to talk. We both love her son. I was expecting her to tell me stories of his childhood. But she sat there and just enjoyed having someone in the room with her. She was at peace.
I know she is at peace because she has someone to take over the kingdom when she
Have you thought about your mating ceremony, my dear?”
“No, Alfred said he would take care of that.”
Do you know what you will need to do?”
“I honestly have no idea what I need to do.”
She explained to me that I would have to carry him on my back in wolf form. That I would also be required to allow him to mark me again. That was fine. I did not like the idea of having to be naked in front of the whole pack. It was something that I would have to get used to. If I were going to fight alongside him, I would have to get used to the pack seeing me naked. It was just part of everyday pack life. But that was something that I never got used to. Then again, I was never allowed to go to pack functions. I was always told to stay in my little room. Which, most of the time, I preferred.
”
The only pack functions I was allowed to attend were when there was drinking involved. Then, I would get abused most of the time. She finished explaining everything that I needed to do. It did not seem too hard. I was unsure if I could shift, and Sasha would have to carry him on her back. Even if it were just for a few steps, I would have to practice shifting and start training. I want to get stronger and to be able to help where I am needed.
”
There you are, little one.”
“I was looking for you.”
“I have been visiting with your mother.”
“Let’s go have dinner.”
I was not dressed for dinner. So, what dinner was he talking about? It was around six in the evening. The day has gone by fast. He held out his hand to me. I took it. He led me past the dining hall and out into the open air. That is when I noticed that the gazebo’s lights were on. When we arrived at the gazebo, I noticed that it had been set up for a romantic evening. Today was his birthday, not mine.
“Alfred, what this.”
It’s my birthday dinner.”
I wanted to have dinner with just you.”
It was so sweet. He could have done anything or ordered anything, but he just wanted to have dinner with me. I thought that was so cool. In the middle of the table was the cake that I had made for him.
Happy b’day Alfred.
