Chapter 50
Alfreds POV
”
After leaving Vanessa so she could nap, I went and found my mother.
Mother, will you check on Vanessa from time to time?”
‘Yes, Son, I will.”
“Also, will you tell her what is expected of her at the mating ceremony?”
“1
Again, sweetie, I will.”
I knew my mother would take care of her. She has always wanted a daughter–in–law and someone to take her place as queen. Stacey would have someday, but she was very instant that she would only take it if it were necessary. She likes her freedom. Stacey is the same age as Vanessa. She will find her mate soon enough. Luckily, the curse only affected the males. Stacey was spared from it, which was a relief. She is my parents‘ only female child. I don’t know how she was the only daughter. My mother had four boys before she had a girl. 1
I then went to check on the gun factory. When I walked in, everyone was shocked to see me. They were not expecting me to show up. Everyone was sitting around and doing nothing. The machines weren’t even running.
”
What is going on here?”
Everyone started to work, and then the foreman came out of my office buttoning up his shirt.
Alpha, we were expecting you.”
“I can see that.”
“We have orders for these guns that are not built.”
”
They are to be delivered in two days.”
I was furious that they had been sitting around. The workshop was a disaster, and there
were gun parts everywhere. Bullets were everywhere. We build guns for the human military. We also have deals with other countries. I then called my foreman to the office.
“Elijah, you are fired.”
But Alpha, I need this job.”
You should have thought of that before you had whores in and out of my office.”
We have contracts that we need to fill out. I finished helping my employees clean up the shop, and then they got back to work. I then went into the office and looked over the books. We’ve had a lot of sales lately. Tomorrow, I will check how the training is going. I need to check on my warriors. I will also check to see if the border walls need improvement. I know that they are still building the south walls. The border had an electric fence around it, but it didn’t keep the rogues out. I needed to make sure my borders were secure. We also have to prepare for a war.
I decided that I had enough of dealing with the office staff and called Stacey to come to the office.
Hey, big brothers, what’s up.”
Can you please keep these guys working on the guns?”
”
Sur will.”
I then left and went to find Vanessa. I saw her sitting in the living room with my mother.
There you are, little one.”
I was looking for you.”
“I have been visiting with your mother.”
Let’s go have dinner.”
When I told her, ‘Let’s go to dinner,‘ she looked shocked. She looked herself up and down. I knew she was thinking that she was not dressed for dinner. But she looked amazing. Her hair was up in a messy bun, and she had on sweats and a t–shirt. She was dressed perfectly for the dinner I had in mind. I led her to the gazebo. It was a romantic birthday dinner that I had set up for myself.
“Alfred, what this.”
It’s my birthday dinner.”
“I wanted to have dinner with just you.”
It was just what I wanted for my dinner–a simple dinner of ribs, potato salad, and just her. I had already talked to the kitchen staff and also to my mother. She had informed everyone in the pack that I just wanted it to be Vanessa and myself for dinner. This was the first of many birthday dinners that we were going to have. I did not want to drink like I did every year and sleep with another wolf. That was what I usually did. I wanted to spend it with her. I had some wine and soda. I did not know which one she liked the most, so I had both. I wanted a cold beer.
“I did not know what you liked the best, so I have beer, wine, and soda.”
“I like soda.”
Soda it is.”
I opened a bottle for her and poured it into a cup for her. I then opened my beer. She giggled at the display I put on for her. I acted as if opening the beer was so hard for me. I knew she knew that it was just a show. But it got her to smile, and that was the whole point of it. We ate dinner, and then we cut the cake. I then had a blanket spread out on the lawn by the gazebo. I pulled her up out of her seat by her hand and led her to the blanket. I laid down on the blanket and patted the spot next to me. She smiled and lay down next to me. We were lying on our backs, looking up at the stars.
Something I always enjoyed doing. I was staring at the stars. I would do it whenever I needed to think or when I needed a break from everything. We lay under the stars, simply being with each other in silence, listening to the sounds of the night. Then, there was a clash of thunder and bolt flighting that hit the tree ten feet away from us. I knew it was supposed to rain later, but I was hoping it would stay away until I was ready to go in. But my plans got cut short. I picked Vanessa up and ran into the house. By the time we reached the house, we were both drenched from the rain.
She was laughing, and so was I. We went to the bedroom and got dried off. She got out in a warm nightgown. I put on some sweats. I did not bother putting on any underwear, and by the look of her nightgown, she did not bother putting any on either. I had one more surprise for her. I had started the fire in the fireplace earlier, and my mother made hot
chocolate and cookies. I loved hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies. Also, around the coffee table, I had pillows put on the floor, and we were going to play cards and have
some hot chocolate. We have a TV, but I was not into
old–fashioned.
ching TV. I liked being
I would rather communicate with my people than watch TV. Besides, there was too much to do. I taught her how to play card games. She was enjoying learning games. I also played board games with her. After a while, we forgot the games, and I held her in front of the fireplace. It wasn’t long before she fell asleep in my arms in front of the fireplace.
