Chapter 56
Alfreds POV
83
After learning that Vanessa’s father slit his own throat, he was weakling. Her mother was holding on. She knew her mate had died. But it did not kill her. I believe that they were not fated mates. I will investigate that a little further. Vanessa’s original pack was known for forcing people together. I don’t know if her mother was forced into a union with her father or not. We went back to bed for what I felt was not long enough. The alarm went off and I got up. I was trying to be quiet so as not to wake up Vanessa, but I failed at that.
She was awake.
It was for the best. We had a long day ahead of us anyway. She had a fitting, and we had a party tonight. I had things to do. Reports to review and testing to conduct for the young warriors who are set to graduate from the academy. I also had to check on the walls that were being built. With the war approaching, things have been accelerated. The walls are an example of that. I had planned on finishing the walls during the spring. Winter was coming. We needed to have the walls done before the first snow. The ground gets hard, and it’s almost impossible to dig.
She then asked me questions if I had gotten things ready for the celebration. I assured her that I had. Then she wanted to help with setting up the ceremony. I was surprised that she would be willing to help with it. But that was a good sign of being a Luna. I don’t know if she had any formal training as a Luna. Usually, a Luna of the pack would train their daughters for the position. Because nine out of ten times, they were generally fated to an alpha. That was how it seemed to be. She has been resting since her arrival. I was content to let her stay that way, but she wanted to do things. I told her.
”
Yes, anything you want to do.”
I doubt her mother ever did anything except order people around all day. Her mother was fat. I’m also going to check in on her and see how she’s doing. I want to see how close to death she is. I want her to die for what she did to Vanessa. Like her mother, she was supposed to protect her from such monstrosities that she endured. She got out of bed. She looked terrific in the mornings, with her hair messy and her clothes not appropriately positioned on her body. She adjusted her clothes. The way it outlined her breasts was fantastic. She is filling in nicely. She has meat on her body that she did not have before.
I’m pleased with her progress. I no longer think she is going to freeze to death during the
winter, nor is a strong wind going to blow her over. That was a fear I that she was
i
going to freeze to death because of a lack of body fat. Looking at her every day still felt
like a dream. Her being here was a miracle. She walked over to the closet, and I could hear
the hangers being moved. She then came out dressed in a burnt orange–colored dress. It
looked stunning on her. She had picked out the black boots that I had chosen for her. Her
whole outfit looked beautiful.
Her skin, which had tanned, looked terrific. She looked healthy, finally. I was very
delighted with that. I got dressed, and then we went to the kitchen. Mac was making
breakfast, and it smelled good. He greeted Vanessa first.
Good morning, Luna.”
“You look beautiful.”
“Now, Mac, she is my Luna, not yours.”
I was jealous that he complimented her. I know he meant nothing by it. But I’m fiercely jealous and protective of her.
“I can and will give her compliments from time to time, alpha.”
We both chuckled, and he went back to work. We ate our breakfast, and then I escorted her to the spare room that was being used for the boutique. Jaques was happy to see her. I then kissed her and left to go to the office down the hall. I picked up the folder labeled building reports. I looked over the budget for the building. It was on track. Then I went
over other expenses. They were a little high, but I already knew why. It was because of the clothes and things for Vanessa. Money was not a problem. She would get what she needed
and or wanted.
A long time ago, I created a budget for my pack and expenses. Yes, I’m a prince, and money is not an issue, but everything in moderation. I work hard for what I need. I also
bring in money for the kingdom and my pack. I’m involved in various business ventures. Those were the following things I was going to check. There was a stack of invoices on my desk that needed approval, along with other tasks. My protection business was not legal. Nor were they making guns for people. I had just picked up the stack of papers when I heard a squeal come from the room that Vanessa was in. I quickly dropped everything and ran into the room.
She quickly covered herself. She looked incredibly sexy standing there in just her bra and
panties. She was hiding from Jaques.
“Little one, what is wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Why are you squealing?”
.”
Because I am gaining weight.”
“Is that a good or bad thing?”
“It’s a good thing.”
I went over to her, picked her up, and kissed her. I thought something was seriously wrong. But she was happy that she was gaining weight. No woman I know was pleased about that. But she had every right to be happy about it. She was skin and bones when she arrived. I’m delighted that she is pleased with her weight gain. She was almost completely naked and in my arms. The black bra and panties she had on were so sexy. I hope she has a white set to go with her dress. I looked at her dress and realized that the bodice needed to be fixed and the hip part of it needed to be let out. But she is going to look beautiful in it.
She already had a dress to change into afterward. She wanted to keep her dress to pass down to our daughter. I sat down with her on my lap.
Little one, you need to put your clothes back on before I ravish you.”
She giggled and jumped off my lap. I then walked over to the door and pretended to be upset, telling Jacques that I needed a few minutes.
“I need to teach this tease a lesson.”
She had no idea how much she was teasing me. She was just in her bra. She went and hid behind the couch. I pretended as if I could not see her.
Now, where did she go?”
