Vanessa POV

1 sat on the stage in my chait, in awe of what was happening before me. I have never been to a ceremony like this. In my pack, these things were held privately in people’s homes. Unless it was for a festival or if an alpha was visiting from another pack. A lot of people shifted in their homes, and Doctor Moser would go from house to house and examine them. A lot of people died on their first shift because they did not receive the proper help from the doctor. However, here it was a big deal, and there were many doctors on hand to help anyone who was in trouble.

There was a ruckus coming from a corner of the garden. Alfred jumped up and

immediately went to see what it was. After he cleared the crowd, Mandy and this boy were hauled up on stage.

“I’m pleased to announce that a couple who have been after each other are fated mates.”

It was Mandy and I believe the young man’s name was Randy. I have seen them sneaking kisses when nobody was looking. I was so pleased that they were fated mates. I have seen that a young couple dated, and they were not meant to be fated mates. Alfred seemed attached to this girl, I wonder what she is to him. She was not a lover. He showed her more of a fatherly love than anything. She is also a maid in his house. I will ask him about it later. Right now is not the right time. I knew there was no reason to be jealous. She is the same age as I am. He then again had the microphone. He cleared his throat and got everyone’s attention.

Everyone cheered. I waved to everyone and had them go back to the celebration. Tonight was about the kids who were turning eighteen and their first shift. Alfred went and sat down in his chair, and I went and sat down on his lap. We sat there like that for a while. Then his brothers came over to us, bowed, and then left. The kids were still having a great time at the party. We ate and danced, and it was a lot of fun. I started to get tired. Alfred and I went back to the house. We changed into our pajamas. Then we went to bed. It felt like we weren’t asleep for very long, and the alarm went off,

When I woke up. Alfred was not in the room. But there was a note.

I went to check on the preparation for our mating ceremony.

Right next to it, there was a box. When I opened it, there was a beautiful bracelet. I took

it out of the box and put it on. It was gold with flowers on it. He was so amazing to me. I then went to the dining hall. When I arrived in the dining hall, there was one plate on the table and a vase of roses. Then there was another note right next to the vase of flowers.

Go ahead and eat, and then get dressed in some workout clothes and meet me in the garden. Also, have Mandy put the flowers in our room.

What was for breakfast was delicious. Its biscuits and gravy are one of my favorites. I ate and then returned to the room to get dressed. I selected a pink workout outfit, along with a matching bra and underwear. I put on my tennis shoes and then headed to the garden. He was waiting, dressed in gym shorts and a white T–shirt. On the ground, he had mats that were laid out. What exercises are we doing today? There was a young lady dressed in yellow sitting on a mat in front of the others.

Hey little one, we are going to do some yoga.

“Yoga werewolves do yoga.”

I was surprised that he did yoga. I had never even heard of yoga, let alone considered it a form of exercise. But I knew he had a reason for everything he did. He sat down on the mat, and so did I. The lady in front of us had us do some stretching. I never knew how tight my muscles were. She focused on leg–building exercises today. We then stretched again, and by the time we were done, I was exhausted. We went back to the house and took a shower. He then had to deal with some things. I decided to shift and let Sasha out for a while.

I went out the back door and shifted to Sasha. I let her have control, and we ran around for a while. She then smelled something strange. We then went to investigate what it was. In the middle of the woods, a woman was screaming in pain. She was tied to a post and burned to death. Was she a witch? I tried to back up, but as I backed up, a twig snapped. The people spotted me and I turned around and ran straight back to the house. But I was

halfway there when I felt a needle go into Sasha’s neck. Then I started to see yellow dots in front of my eyes.

I was starting to stumble. I was about ten steps away from the house when I saw Leon. He

was behind me in an instant, and there were several other wolves, including Mandy’s red-

haired wolf. The people they were fighting were actual people. They were not shifting.

Then everything went black. The next time I woke up, I was in human form and in bed.

What is going on? Alfred was there.

“What was happening out there?”

Those were humans burning a witch alive.”

How terrible, why were they doing that? Did the witch get caught doing things she was not supposed to? Why were they in werewolf territory?

Why were they burning a witch?

“She probably got caught casting spells on people.”

That is terrible.”

I did not understand that. They cast spells on everyone. Don’t they have any allies? Witches were not very nice. I want to find the witch that cursed me and my sisters. I haven’t seen them since I arrived here. Truthfully, I don’t have any desire to see them. They did nothing to protect me. They were so wrapped up in obeying our father that they did not want to anger him because of what he did to me. I stayed in bed for the rest of the

day. I felt too weak to do anything.

Alfred stayed close to me for the rest of the day. He had some paperwork brought into the room so he could get some work done. He was going over bank statements; it looked like

that. I was reading some books. He then put his paperwork aside and kissed me.

I will be back with some dinner.”

He then left the room. It wasn’t long before I heard yelling in the hallway. What is going
