The Alpha Of The Shadow Pack And His Mute Luna (by Beatrice Putnam) novel Chapter 97

Chapter 97

Alfreds POV

81

After a very restless night, I decided to spar with some of the recruits today after

attending to office business. I got up and got dressed. I kissed Vanessa, then walked out of the room. I still had a lot on my mind. I went to my office, as I had thought there was a pile of paperwork that I needed to sort through and deal with. With Vanessa being pregnant now, I had to make some tough choices. I had already mindlinked with the captain of the warriors and had him choose several warriors to assign to her for a protection detail. She was not going to walk around the pack unescorted. I had requested at least six warriors to be with her whenever she left the house. They were told to stay outside the house while I was not there. When I was there, they were nearby in case I

needed them. They would remain outside.

I had a canopy set up for them to protect them from the bad weather. It was fall, and the weather was getting colder, with some days even snowing. Today, the weather was warm. outside. It was chilly and just required a hoodie. I knew Vanessa had plenty of warm clothes. Some of them were going to be baggy on her right now, but as the pup got bigger, she would require bigger clothes. Additionally, she was already gaining weight and filling out nicely, in all the right places. I was impressed that she was embracing her role as Luna. I still wanted to know her exercise level. I called the doctor on the phone and told him to come to my office so we could discuss that stuff. I did not ask him that question yesterday. My mother said she ran two miles a day and stayed active. But she was healthy.

Only if I had found Vanessa sooner. She would not have been beaten so badly and have so many issues. I wish the moon goddess would change the age so that she could scent out your mate before they turn 18. That is something I will never understand. Humans turn eighteen, and they become adults legally. But most of them are still kids. Some of them even try to come onto our land and take pictures. They think they are big and bad for taking a picture of trees on our land. I sit there and laugh at them when I shift and scream them off our land. They can hear the bones breaking and then the growl I let out.

I arrived at my office and sat down at my desk. I went over the financial reports. The numbers were not adding up. The amounts received did not match the deposit amount. Someone was not depositing all the money from the club that we helped at. My warriors were bouncers who controlled the crowd, and when people got rowdy, they would intervene to stop the disturbance. I know they had to have been doing their jobs. The money coming into the club was good. I will speak with the manager. I knew that the

owner was very meticulous about the money. So these numbers were off.

After finishing up in the office, I went to the training field. I noticed that there were warriors on the track training. There were also warriors training in the middle of the field. I was in the middle of sparring with Carson when I saw Vanessa walking around the track. She saw me watching her, and Carson was able to take a cheap shot, which pissed me off. I always trained as if it were an actual battle. Then she walked over to the bleachers and sat down. Stacey went to talk to her. She was constantly training. She is my sister and she always had an escort. However, when she was a teenager, she began training with her escort, which made my father and me happy. She was a princess and did not need to train, but she took it upon herself to do so.

I knew that Vanessa had never trained a day in her life. She was trained for something else entirely. The thought of her socalled training pissed me off. If she had been in my pack, it would never have happened. Now she is the mother of my child and my mate. I will train her to be a strong warrior when the time is right. I had no idea what they were talking about. As they were talking, I walked over to where they were.

Little one, what are you doing?

She explained that she wanted to get some exercise. I wanted to know where her escort was. They should have been with her.

Where is your escort?

Before she responded, she looked confused. That told me that she had left the house without them, or they weren’t there.

I don’t know.

I then mindlinked the captain, and he said that he had sent six warriors over to the house. Before I could finish saying anything, they came running up. The captain had picked six warriors. That pleased me. I started to question them.

I told you to watch her and protect her.

I was starting to yell at them when she gently placed her hand on my shoulder.

The Luna was not in the house when we arrived; we assumed that she was with you.

I was starting to yell at them when she again placed her hand on my shoulder. I stopped yelling. I will deal with them later. I went back to training, carefully watching them. She got up and started walking around the track again. The doctor had told me that light exercise, such as walking, was beneficial for her. Making love was still OK. There was no way that I could keep my hands off her. Sooner or later, her hormones were going to kick in, and she was going to want to have sex all the time. Mother went through that when she was pregnant. Hell, her father still fuck like they are newly mated. She then tripped over something and almost fell. One of the guards was by her side and helping her up.

I rushed to her side. I picked her up, rushed her to the house, and called for the doctor. When I was assured that she was fine and the baby was too, I began to scold her. I then went and got her some water.

Little one, you need to be careful.

I know I just tripped, and I landed on my knee.

I was also jealous that another man had saved her first before I could reach her. I always wanted to be the first one there for her. I would have to let my pride go. Because I would have things to do that would require me to be away from her. But I knew that they would inform me of any issues. I knew that I would need to let her exercise every day. It would help with the delivery of the baby when the time came. However, I would always make sure she is safe.
