Chapter 98
Vanessa POV
Since the doctor was already there, he had the ultrasound machine brought in. He conducted his examination and then printed out a picture, after which he pushed the machine out of the bedroom.
“The boy looks strong.”

The boy, so we have a boy. I was happy, but at the same time, I felt a little sad. Since the curse that afflicts Alfred’s family is generational, that meant that my boy was going to suffer the same fate as his uncles when he grew up. Alfred was smiling, but I could feel his emotions. He was happy but sad, just like me. I was more determined to find Tyler and break the curse.
“We will find him, my love.”
I did not block him from my thoughts. I always wanted him to know what I was thinking. I had nothing to hide. When the time came to hide something from him, I would make it so that he could not read my mind when I was planning a surprise for him, more or less. Sometimes surprising people is a good thing. Currently, we are both surprised by the pregnancy and the news that we are having a boy. We have thirty years to figure things out. It’s not going to take us thirty years to find him. But I knew that we would find him sooner or later. I was going to make sure of it. My baby was going to be uncursed by the time he was one year old. Even if Alfred tried to stop me, I would not allow it.
I knew he was unhappy about my thoughts, but I didn’t care.
“Little one, you are not going to do anything while you are pregnant.”
That’s what he thought. I was going to do everything I could to break this curse. My child was not going to grow up knowing about it. People will ask us, and he will have questions. I stopped smiling and started to cry. No pregnant woman should deal with this. Now I understood how his mom felt as she watched her sons never shift back. I won’t ask her about it. Even now, while he’s not born, I feel a sadness in my heart. The doctor left. I was still crying while Alfred held me. I was hungry. Alfred heard my stomach growl and left for food.
Stacey came in while he was gone.
Can you get me maps of the witches‘ forest?”
Luna, don’t do anything rash.”
I do not recall asking for your opinion.”
“Can you get them or not?”
“I can.”
Good, then I could plan how to get into the forest and find Tyler. She congratulated me and then left. Shortly after that, Alfred came back with a sandwich. I ate it and wanted more. He went and got me another one. While he was gone, I put my hands on my stomach.
Baby boy, I will do whatever I have to protect you and break this curse.”
I was rubbing my stomach when Alfred came back. I finished my second sandwich and then took a nap. When I woke up again, I was alone. I got out of bed, and before standing fully on my ankle, I tested it to make sure it did not hurt anymore. It was healed. I like being able to heal quickly, as I was previously unable to due to the silver and wolfbane in my system. I have gotten stronger. I can now exercise. Unlike before, I could not. I did not have the energy to do so. I went to take a shower. I knew Alfred was out handling business. He had a lot to do now, more than he had before. He had to ensure everything was taken care of before the baby arrived. The gel from the ultrasound machine made my stomach feel sticky.
I finished my shower and put on a pair of shorts and a tank top. I was not planning on leaving the house. My boobs were not big enough that someone would notice that I did not have a bra on. I went to the living room. Stacey was there. She was playing with a deck of cards.
Hey, Luna.”
Stacey, when we are in private, please call me Vanessa.”
As you wish.”
I know I’m the Luna, but I wanted Stacey and me to be friends and not be so formal all
the time.
“Alfred said you were resting, and he told me to guard the house.”
I did not understand why that was. I had guards outside the house. I felt like he was being overprotective. It was getting to be dinner time. I knew that Mac would be in the kitchen. I wanted a snack. I could smell dinner cooking. When I walked into the kitchen, Mac was by the stove stirring a pot of food. Whatever he was cooking smelled delicious. It was making my mouth water.
“Hey, Luna, sit down, and I’ll make you some toast.”
“That sounds wonderful.”
“What are you cooking?”
“I’m making spaghetti sauce.”
“It smells delicious.”

I couldn’t wait until it was ready. He had water boiling. I knew it was for noodles. The smell of garlic was coming from the oven. I’m assuming he’s making garlic bread. We are alone in the alpha house. Alfred had everyone move out and into the pack house. The only one who was there was Stacey. Stacey has not yet found her mate. She really wasn’t looking yet. Her mate might be in another pack. That happens all the time. I felt bad for her. She needed someone. She was about my age, maybe a little older. I had no idea how old she was. However, she was still young enough to wait. She was more focused on being a warrior. I knew some girls like that. I hope that she does not find her mate in a battle. That would be really awkward.
However, warriors usually found their mates in this way. Sometimes they would kill them because they were from the pack that they were fighting. I hope that is not the case for her. I would be brokenhearted for her. I ate my toast and then went to find Stacey again. She was still in the living room.
Feel better now that you have got something to eat.”
Yes.”
I felt better after eating something. However, I was saving room for dinner. I knew that if I over ate for a snack, I wouldn’t be hungry. Shortly after I sat down on the couch, Alfred came in.
How are you beautiful ladies doing?”
I blushed, and Stacey asked him.
What do you want?”
As if he were speaking a secret code or something. But she knows him better than I do.
Nothing.”
“Really, big brother.”
I thought it was funny the way she talked to him. They both come from Alpha blood. She would be next in line if he had not found his mate also, if he did not have any children.
