I understand why my parents think Daisy is weak and useless because well… she is! She’s too shy, too kind, and too annoying for me to be around but I put up with it because of one person: Naomi. She appeared out of nowhere one day after Daisy seemed to completely break when Mama hit her for the first time and told her how much she hated her.

I see her as another personality, but it’s my favorite! She’s so confident and strong and the sister I want all the time! I know it’s her in charge when Daisy’s purple eyes turn golden. Daisy seems aware of her presence too but I’m not sure either. I don’t talk to her much and only keep up appearances.

As I walk downstairs ready to get the day started, I see Daisy standing in front of my parents. With her harsh glare, I can’t help but get excited. Naomi will be out today so we can play and explore the woods!

Daddy backhands her hard and the sound is enough to make me flinch but Naomi stands her ground and just glares back to him. “Heh… get out of my sight.” He mutters and storms away. Mama looks away and follows him.

Once they’re gone, I hurry over to her and beam. “Naomi! I’m so happy you’re out today!” I take her hand and giggle. Her cheek is already red and I bet it will bruise but that’s a problem for Daisy.

Naomi looks at me oddly but then smiles. “Good morning, Dahlia. I have somewhat of a surprise for you today anyway.” She says and offers me a hand. “There’s someone named Sunny who I’m sure you’ll love to meet.”

This makes me frown. Sunny? I’ve never heard of that name before. “Let’s get some breakfast first and then we can go! How’s that?” With a small Naomi, we hold hands and make our way to the mess hall.

Normally, Daisy wouldn’t eat with me because of her rank, but I always sit and eat with Naomi. We get our food and sit down at the best table where the Alpha’s son, Tristian is.

“Hi, Dahlia!” He smiles cheerfully at me. He just recently turned ten years old and is training hard to be the best Alpha he can be. I can’t wait until he takes over! “I see that Daisy has joined us well.” He’s always so dismissive of her which is fine by me. Daisy is a drag after all! Not Naomi though.

“Greetings, future Alpha.” Naomi drips her head politely and starts to eat. She plays the submissive Omega well, but she can’t be one! I bet she’s a strong Beta like me!

Tristian and I talk while we eat while Naomi eats silently without disturbing us. Once we finish, I drag her out to the woods. We always have so much fun together and I can’t wait any longer!

“What should we do? Explore the forest? Play hide and seek?” I ask excitedly and Naomi looks at me in amusement.

“First, I’d like to see if I can get Sunny to wake up,” Naomi says which makes me tilt my head. “Sunny is your wolf. I sense her getting stronger so she should wake up at any time.”

My heart starts to pound. My wolf? How does she know that? As I stare at Naomi, a thought crosses my mind. “You’re… Daisy’s wolf, aren’t you?” Her warm smile confirms it but I still feel stunned. Daisy’s an Omega so how did her wolf wake up already?

Does this mean Daisy is very special? Will she be getting more attention than me if anyone finds out? A wave of jealousy comes over me. Naomi has been around since we turned five! How is this possible?

“I’m sure you’re dying to meet her.” Naomi goes on unaware of how I feel or what I’m thinking about. “And I figure this way you can start learning about her.”

I frown deeply but nod. “If it’s possible, then that would be great!” It is a wonderful thought even if I’m just dying from jealousy. This isn’t fair at all!

Chapter 15

“Ok so focus inward and try to picture your wolf. Call her name and see if she answers.” Naomi instructs. “If she takes over, you may not be aware of what happens while she is.” So that’s why Daisy seems so unaware of Naomi.

I swallow hard and nod closing my eyes. The wolf I’ve always wanted a wolf that looks just like mama’s: a beautiful red wolf. As I picture a younger version of Mama’s wolf, I then call out her name. “Sunny?” I wait for a moment before calling again. “Sunny!”

I panic when I don’t hear anything, but then I feel something stir within me. My heart pounds as I hear a voice in my head. ‘Hello there, Dahlia. What can I do for you?’ I beam and look at Naomi. “I did it! It really worked!”

Naomi smiles proudly. “That’s wonderful! I’m so happy for you.” Her smile then stiffens and she stares at something behind me. I turn and freeze seeing a huge bear looming over me.

Time seems to slow down as it charges at me. I’m frozen in place unable to move. “DAHLIA LOOK OUT!!!” Naomi screams and behind me, I hear bones cracking and clothes tearing. The next thing I see is a pure white wolf leaping into view.

I fall back on my rump and watch as the wolf fends off the bear. As I do, I hear Sunny whimper fearfully. ‘Naomi…’ my heart sinks. She can even turn into a wolf… Daisy is the special one with a powerful wolf. Why? Why isn’t it me instead?

I smell blood and see her white fur stained with red. The bear ends up running off and the white wolf falls to the side. I then see as she shifts back and there she is, naked and wounded.

I go over to her side. “Naomi?” I shake her and pale. “Naomi?!” I see her stir and open her eyes. They’re still golden.

“… You’re ok… I’m glad.” She whispers and smiles warmly yet weakly too. She’s badly hurt.

“W-why…? Why did you…?” I tremble and hold her hand. Naomi defended me without even thinking of herself. Why did she do that?
