-Some Time Earlier-

Life can’t be any better for me! Dad is an amazing leader and Alpha and Mom is a kind yet firm Luna! Maybe a little too firm at times but still! Mom is the best! So is everyone else too! Being the son of the leaders has many perks that I take full advantage of.

Peter is a great godfather to me. He lets me ride on his shoulders whether in his human or wolf form. Having the Beta as an uncle figure is awesome! He has been distant lately but still always makes time for me when my parents are busy. He always stares off into space but I can’t ask why because he never tells me! ‘It’s something only I can understand? How rude!

Then there’s Sammy! He’s always spending time with me and finding nice ways to keep me entertained! Everyone says he loves Mom but I think he’s just great friends with her. He’s also great with Ebony!

Speaking of which, Ebony is awesome! She’s a little older than me but also rather shy. One day when I’m the Alpha instead of Dad, I’m going to make her my Luna! She’d be my perfect and kind little mate just like Mom is for Dad! It makes her blush which is so cute as well. I don’t care what anyone says either! Ebony is mine and that’s that!

To say I have made is an understatement but some things are unfair. For example, not being able to go to this party is unfair! I want to meet the Alpha King and see the other packs too! Spending all week pouting did nothing to win them over either.

One thing that makes me feel better is that only those over ten years old can attend. I thought because I was the son of the Alpha that I could go any way but no exceptions at all! So unfair but I’ll be able to attend the next party in five years because I’ll be twelve.

I still traveled this far and got to spend time with my best friend and future mate and her mother, Zoey. She’s nice but always distant with everyone except her pup and me. She used to cling to Peter but once they turned out to not be mates, she went back into her shell. It’s sad but I’m sure she’ll find her mate one day!

Now, I get to play with Ebony with Zoey watching over us. Peter was supposed to as well but he’s been acting strange lately. His wolf keeps gaining control and being short with everyone. Even sweet Ebony isn’t spared from his wrath! So weird but Dad told me to just leave him be. I wonder if he knows what’s going on with him… oh well!

“Come on! Let’s go and explore.” I tug at Ebony and grin. “Don’t you worry! I’ll protect you and your mom will be close by always.” That is true as Zoey is super protective of her pup. I bet she’ll be that way even when she’s an adult!

“I don’t know…” Ebony looks around nervously. “It’s safe here. The woods look so… gloomy. This isn’t home at all.” Her little black wolf ears appear flat against her head and I reach out and scratch before one of them making her whine.

“Don’t worry! I’ll protect you from all the scary things in there.” I say firmly and grin proudly. “I’m the future Alpha of Crimson Moon! I’m awesome and strong remember? Besides, you’re the future Luna.” I wink making her blush cutely.

“S-Sky! Stop that!” Ebony whines and puts her hands on her cheeks. She seems lost in thought for a moment then she huffs. “F-fine! Let’s go then. Lead the way.” She says and puffs out her cheeks now.

I grin happily. She looks so good when she’s determined! That’s why I like to push her. “Great! I’ll race you!” With that, I take off and hear Ebony run after me.

Feeling the wind through my hair makes me feel so alive. I sense my wolf ears and tail appear and grin. I can’t wait to shift into my wolf form for real! He hasn’t spoken to me yet but I’m sure he’ll be awesome.

“Can’t catch me! You’re so slow, Ebony!”I call out to her and laugh. She’s far behind me and panting happily. I jump over a log and laugh even more.

“Sky, wait! It’s scary out here!” Ebony stammers which makes me groan. Why is she so scared? I don’t want to but slow my

pace so she can catch up. I see that she’s winded so I slow to a halt.

“You need to get in better shape if you ever want to catch me one day. I pat the top of her and feel my tail wagging. I like her so much that I can barely contain myself!

“Y-you cheated anyway!” Ebony huffs and looks away with a pout. “You didn’t start with me! Cheater!” She hits my arm lightly and I grin happily. I love it when she gets feisty.

“You always have to be prepared when it comes to me!” I say firmly then tense when I hear Zoey let out a snarl in the shadows, Sensing someone approaching, I spin around and see a woman standing in front of me.

Her dark gold eyes look wild and feral. Zoey comes out and growls. ‘Back off!’ She’s in her wolf form so this has to be a real threat. Who is this girl? I step back and keep Ebony behind me as she whimpers. ‘Get away if you know what’s good for you!”
