Daisy

I stand frozen in place while Leah walks over to the bed. There lies my pup whose torso is wrapped in gauze. His face is pale but covered in old brules and his hair dark and greasy from not being cared for. It takes everything in me not to bolt to his side and hold Skylar close.

Aiden takes my hand once more and I can feel his hand trembling. I swallow hard and step into the room with her. “H–how… bad is it?” Task trying and failing to keep my voice steady. His scent smells of dried blood and the woods. How long had he been running to get here?

“His wounds should heal with time. He does have a broken rib as well but again with time…” Leah trails off and looks over to us. “His physical wounds will heal nicely. I don’t know his mental state so I can’t tell you an answer for that sadly. I apologize for that.”

I swallow hard and nod. Aiden turns away and walks off. Suddenly I feel all alone. “Yeah… I know. T–thank you for taking care of my pup.” I whisper as! approach the bed. Seeing Skylar like this breaks my heart. Even Naomi is subdued and numb right now.

I take Skylar’s hand and watch over him to see if I notice any changes. I can tell he’s grown taller but that’s to be expected. Other than that… he’s starting to look less like Tristian now. His face shape is growing differently being a little sharper yet sweeter. He’s going to be a heartbreaker I’m sure… unless he’s still completely certain Ebony is his mate.

Thinking back on it makes me giggle. Skylar always made poor little Ebony blush and stammer out how it was nonsense. Childhood love… I hope it turns out better than mine did. Otherwise, my first love ended up being such trash in the end.

I look up hearing footsteps and see Aiden walk in with a couple of folding chairs. He offers a small smile. “I figured we’re going to stay by his side so why not have some chairs?” He murmurs and sets the chairs down. “Here, love.” He fixes a chair behind me and helps me sit down. “Besides… we both are exhausted so maybe we can doze off as well.”

As I sit down, Aiden fixes the other chair right next to me and sits down. He then turns his attention to Skylar and smiles. “Hey there, little man…” he murmurs and rubs the hand I’m holding. “It’s so good to see you again. Don’t be afraid anymore. Your Mom and Dad are here now. We’ll protect you… and bring justice onto those bad people who took you from us.”

Watching and listening to Aiden warms my heart. No matter what Skylar will always be his son. He adores him just as much as our twins. A smile appears on my face. I can’t wait for the twins to meet Skylar.

I lean against his shoulder and sigh softly. “Please wake up soon, Sky… we all want to talk to you. Take your time though… please get better before anything.” I close my eyes feeling exhaustion hit me.

While Aiden murmurs to me to get some rest, Naomi paces around. ‘Let me out! I want to see what I can find out. I know what will happen if I do that. Naomi will go on a crazed frenzy. No one will be safe from her blind rage.

‘Don’t even think about it.’ I tell her and Naomi whimpers like a scolded pup. ‘Now isn’t the time. We don’t want to scare our pup. For now, we need to be by his side. We can get our revenge later on.‘ I clench my free fist. No way I’m going to let this go.

Naomi whines but starts to quiet and calm down. As she does, I breathe in my mate’s scent and doze off. Getting here as soon as we did was hard work. Now that all my adrenaline has run out, I can’t myself from just crashing.

Before I know it, I snap awake to the sound of chaos and Aiden standing up. I look around frantically and see that Skylar is off the bed. Fear runs through me and I stand up as well then see my pup in a corner shaking. “Sky?” He flinches when I start to move toward him and growls low making me stop. What’s going on?

“W–who are you?” Skylar stammers and glares at us. “Where am I? Why am I here? What do you want?!” He snarls and holds himself tightly. “Go away!

Leave me alone!”

My heart sinks. He doesn’t know who we are? Has he forgotten so much just like Zoey? Shaken, I don’t know what to do or how to act. “S–Skylar? You don’t… remember your mom…?” I ask in a trembling voice. Right now, sorrow is overshadowing my outrage.

“Skylar? I don’t even…” Skylar frowns as his eyes dull. “No… Keith… right…?” Then he shakes his head. “That’s not me! Just go away!” He covers his head

and rocks back and forth. Seeing him like this shatters me. I want nothing more than to go to him and hold him close but i bat he dies get oven to

Before either of us can say anything, Skylar suddenly snaps his head up and looks around. “W–where’s Ebony?” He asks and glares at us. I’ve no reque such a wild and angry look on my pup’s face before. “What do you do to Ebony?!” I sense some sort of power coming from my pup. Why does he beat the an Alpha already? He shouldn’t have that until he’s eighteen so why…?

“Answer me!!!” i flinch at the tone and see Skylar standing now. Why does it feel like he’s giving an Alpha’s order to us? “If you people have laid your hands on Ebony…” His body trembles in pain and exhaustion but I know he means business. I find myself unable to break eye contact with my pup

I hear rushed footsteps suddenly and the door swings open. “S–Sky?” I look back and see Ebony panting at the door. “Sky! It’s alright! Don’t be afraid!” She hurries over to Skylar and hugs him without hesitation. “These are good people! They’d never hurt either of us so please… please calm down, Sky

Skylar tenses and seems stiff for a good while. Then his arms wrap around her and he shakes. “Ebony…” he put his forehead on her shoulder. “You’re real… my Ebony… Jaden was right… heh…” he laughs faintly. “Sky… not Keith… ha… why does that sound right…?

As I watch my pup calm down, I can see how much dependent he is on Ebony right now. He’s clinging to her as if his life depends on it instead of the fearful and tense little boy, I can see that he’s still the sweet pup that I knew and loved to death.

Someone clears their throaty at the door and looks over to see both Leah and Olivia standing there. “We’d like to examine Skylar now that he’s awake so if you’ll please leave the room, that would be appreciated,” Leah tells us.

Immediately, Skylar tenses and pulls Ebony behind him. “Ebony’s not going anywhere!” He snarls and glares. Everything about his stance shows how protective he is of her and it reminds me of how Aiden protects me. It’s like he’s guarding his mate.
