The Billionaire's Regret: His Secret Wife Turned Medical Genius novel Chapter 120

The next morning, Emily dressed up for work and opened her door.

But suddenly, she stopped short.

The hallway was jammed with taped boxes and furniture draped in white sheets, and movers shuffled in and out of the unit next to hers.

The unit had sat empty for three years, but it looked like there was finally a new neighbor.

Just then, Emily's watch buzzed, pulling her out of her thoughts. Quickly, she locked the door behind her and headed to the hospital.

In the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery's office, Emily slipped on her white coat. Her day was packed, and a complex aortic valve replacement was scheduled that afternoon.

She picked up the chart and immersed herself in pre-operative planning.

Moments later, a knock broke the silence.

"Come in," Emily said.

The head nurse, Janet Rowley, walked in with an apologetic look. "Dr. Sterling, a patient is asking for you. She says she's feeling pain in her heart."

"Have her register and wait her turn," Emily said without looking up.

"But..." Janet hesitated. "She says she's Mr. Holton's friend. Her name is Vivian Lawrence. It sounds urgent..."

Emily's fingers suddenly stopped flipping through the chart.

She understood what this meant right away—Vivian still hadn't let go of what had happened last night. After all, she didn't look like she had any heart problems at all.

But she had to admit that Vivian was fast. She'd figured out her workplace overnight and showed up at her department by the next morning.

"Send her in," Emily simply said.

A few minutes later, Vivian appeared at the door in a simple white dress. Her hair hung loose over her shoulders, and her makeup was so minimal that it made her look fragile almost.

She looked nothing like the hostile woman from the night before.

Vivian flinched like a startled deer when she saw Emily, shrinking back a little before stepping inside. "Dr... Dr. Sterling," she whispered, one hand pressed to her chest as if she might faint. "It... It hurts right here."

Emily leaned back, folded her arms, and let the silence sit.

Emily looked up, her gaze sharp. "Are you questioning my judgment?"

Vivian flinched and quickly shook her head. "No, I just..."

"If you don't trust my evaluation, you're free to see another physician." Emily pressed the call button on her desk and kept her voice even as she said, "Next patient."

Her actions clearly implied that she was dismissing Vivian completely.

Vivian's face flushed, then quickly paled. Under the weight of clinical authority, her little act looked ridiculous.

So, she stood up, grabbed the chart, and hurried out.

The moment the door closed behind her, she shed her fragile, pitiful mask in an instant. "Just you wait, Emily!" she muttered under her breath.

Then, she slipped into the empty stairwell, pulled out her phone, and dialed a number.

When the line connected, her voice softened into a fragile, wounded tone. "Hello, I'd like to file an anonymous complaint against Dr. Emily Sterling, the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the municipal hospital.

"She treated me poorly and brushed me off. She was completely irresponsible! What if something really happens to me? She didn't take my condition seriously!"
