Mallory rushed over to Gabriel and Emily. Tears streamed down her face when she noticed the terrible state Emily was in. "Look what you've done, Gabriel! Look what you've done to Emily! This is all your fault!" she shouted.
However, Gabriel simply ignored her, picked Emily up, and walked past Mallory.
…
The light in the interrogation room was blindingly white.
The abductors didn't hold out for long and soon told the police officers everything.
They accepted jobs in exchange for money, and the person who'd hired them this time was a woman. However, she'd used an encryption software and voice changer when contacting them.
The money they received from her was also transferred to them from an overseas bank account, so the police couldn't trace the source.
The only clue the police had was the personal phone that belonged to the man with the scarred face. He was the leader of the abductors.
A young officer was currently analyzing the data in the phone, hoping to find some sort of clue that could help them solve the case.
Gabriel stood behind him. He didn't say a word, but the intimidating air he exuded made everyone in the office feel like they couldn't breathe properly.
Meanwhile, Mallory had already rushed Emily to the hospital. Once Gabriel had settled his business at the police station, he would immediately join them.
The young police officer suddenly let out a gasp. "Mr. Holton, take a look at this," he said as he turned the phone screen toward Gabriel.
He had found a secret folder in the phone's cloud backup system. The folder was named "Memories of Lonfield." The man with the scarred face was in most of the pictures, along with a blond and blue-eyed man—as well as Amelia.
Amelia looked younger in the photos. Her smile was bright and sweet as she clung to the foreigner's arm. The background of the photo was a cozy apartment that had some of their pictures hanging on the wall too.
It was obvious that they lived together.
A cold sensation spread from Gabriel's toes to the top of his head. He felt as if his blood had frozen in his veins.
Upon realizing the terrible mistake he'd made, his chest violently heaved.
Instantly, he whipped around and left the police station, cutting off the police officer's questions as he slammed the door behind him.
…
Amelia was in high spirits when Roman told her that Gabriel wanted to urgently see her in his office.
She reckoned that Emily must've been thrown into the ocean and turned into fish food by now.
From now onward, she would no longer have a place by Gabriel's side.
"You wanted to see me, Gabe?" she asked as she pushed open the door to the president's office.
He grabbed his phone, looking like he was about to call the police.
Amelia was beyond panicked. If the police got involved, her reputation would be utterly ruined even if they didn't have the evidence to prosecute her.
She couldn't afford to go to prison, and more importantly, she couldn't afford to lose someone like Gabriel.
She threw herself at him and tightly clutched his arm before falling to her knees. "You can't do this to me, Gabriel! Did you forget about how I saved you when we were kids?"
Gabriel paused just as he was about to tap the call button.
Amelia cried even harder when she noticed his hesitation. "You promised me that you would treat me well.
"Gabe, I have an explanation for the photo, but I didn't plan Emily's abduction! Why would I do that?
"I love you so much that I lose my mind from jealousy whenever I see you with her. But I would never do anything illegal!"
She continued to sob and wail, painting herself as a pitiful person who had gone crazy because of love. She refused to admit that she was responsible for the abduction.
The police didn't have any concrete evidence. So, as long as she managed to get through Gabriel's hardened heart, she would be able to escape this crisis.
Gabriel gazed at Amelia. She was kneeling on the ground and quivering all over from how hard she was crying.
