The Billionaire's Regret: His Secret Wife Turned Medical Genius novel Chapter 89

Gabriel took a step forward. He was so intimidating that Robert nearly lost his balance.

"I don't care what relationship the two of you shared in the past. Stay away from her from now on. If I see you try to get close to her again…" Gabriel paused as his eyes fell on Robert's slightly trembling hands. "You can kiss your hands goodbye."

Robert looked incredibly upset. He had no doubt that Gabriel was being serious about this threat.

He glanced at an emotionless Emily before directing his gaze back to Gabriel, whose face was as dark as coal.

Despite his reluctance, he had no choice but to turn around and pathetically run off.

With that, peace was restored to the world once more.

Gabriel slowly turned around to look at Emily. Throughout the entire exchange, she hadn't said a word.

He'd thought that his actions would earn him a reaction from her. Perhaps she might even be moved by the way he protected her. But Emily showed no signs of being affected at all. Instead, her eyes were still twin pools of calm without a single ripple on their surface.

After a moment, Emily finally looked up at Gabriel. Not wanting to have anything to do with him, she said, "You can stop acting now, Mr. Holton. I just want us to get a divorce as soon as possible, so we'll have nothing to do with each other anymore."

Without sparing him another glance, she circled around him and walked off.

This left Gabriel rooted to the spot. It seemed that in Emily's heart, everything he did was just part of a ridiculous performance.

He drank in the image of Emily's resolute back, watching as her shadow elongated under the streetlights.

She was moving further and further away from him.

But Gabriel refused to allow that to happen. Soon, he started chasing after her and grabbed her wrist again once he'd caught up.

Emily halted her footsteps but didn't turn to look at him. She simply tried to free herself from his grasp. Every move that she made screamed of exhaustion. "Let go."

"I don't want to get a divorce," Gabriel hoarsely murmured, as if he was forcing each word out of his throat.

Emily was silent for a long time. In fact, she remained mute for so long that Gabriel assumed that she wasn't going to give him this last chance.

Finally, Emily lifted her hand. However, it wasn't to push him away. Rather, it was to peel his fingers off her wrist, one at a time. Then, she wordlessly turned around and joined the crowd of pedestrians on the street.

A few days later, the sun was shining warm and bright in the sky.

It was rare for Emily not to have any operations scheduled for the day. Finally having some free time to herself, she sat at the balcony of her apartment speaking to Mallory over the phone.

Her life had been uncharacteristically peaceful for the last couple of days.

"What do you mean he wants a six-month cooldown period?" Mallory's high-pitched voice echoed from the receiver. "Does that paranoid freak really think he can control himself and not seek you out for six months? The sun will rise from the west if that happens!"
