"Everyone acknowledges your capabilities, and the hospital also relies on your skills," Adrain explained. "I'll accept your application for now, but I'll have to consider it carefully."
Emily nodded and didn't say anything else. "I'll be waiting for your response."
With that, she turned around and left Adrain's office.
The moment the door clicked shut, Adrain immediately picked up his personal phone and dialed a number.
"Mr. Holton, it's me. I need to report something to you."
Adrian carefully told Gabriel about how Emily had just applied for the exchange program, sparing no detail.
A dead silence descended on the other end of the line. Gabriel didn't respond, and Adrain couldn't even hear his breathing.
The silence stretched on to the point that Adrain became convinced that Gabriel had actually hung up on him.
Finally, he mustered up his courage and carefully asked, "How do you think I should handle this situation, Mr. Holton?"
Gabriel finally replied in an icy tone, "Approve her application."
Adrain's hand trembled, and he nearly dropped his phone.
He couldn't believe his ears. Did Gabriel actually approve Emily's application without any fuss?
Gabriel suddenly spoke up again before Adrain could fully process what had happened. He said, "Have Mallory go with her."
"Understood, Mr. Holton," Adrain hastily replied.
After that, the line went dead.
…
The heavy air surrounding Gabriel was downright terrifying as he placed his phone down.
Emily wanted to leave? She wanted to escape his control and go to a whole new place to free herself from him?
He couldn't believe how eager she was to leave his side.
After mulling over his thoughts, Gabriel picked up the internal phone and dialed a number.
"Come to my office, Roman."
Adrain cheerfully looked at Mallory before saying, "Dr. Prescott, you and Dr. Sterling are the two pillars of our department, so the hospital has decided to give you a slot in the program as well. The two of you will be going together, so you can look after each other."
Mallory's eyes widened to the size of saucers. Disbelief was written all over her face. "I… I'm going too?"
"That's right!"
"We're going to Ritzland together, Mills!" Mallory excitedly exclaimed. She looked like she was on the verge of jumping for joy. She hugged Emily, laughing and cheering ecstatically.
Infected by Mallory's happiness, a small smile stretched across Emily's face too.
However, an odd feeling began to spread in her chest at the same time.
Everything seemed to be proceeding a little too smoothly.
Based on Adrain's usual way of handling things, he definitely wouldn't have allowed two attending physicians of the department to leave so easily, especially since they were going to be gone for six months.
The only plausible reason was that someone he couldn't afford to offend had given the order behind the scenes.
Instantly, Gabriel's name floated to the forefront of Emily's thoughts, and she couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking.
