What a twisted joke.
From the moment Maurice had sacrificed her to secure a business deal for the Sterling family, he'd stopped being a father.
This man was a parasite that drained her dry. In fact, he was the one who'd ruined her life in the first place.
Maurice felt a chill as he stood under Emily's stare. Nevertheless, he puffed himself up, shouting with false bravado, "What the hell are you smiling at, you ungrateful brat!"
He reached out to grab Emily's arm, trying to drag her back inside.
However, Emily's eyes flashed cold as she sidestepped him.
Never again would she let anyone control her.
Missing his grip, Maurice grew furious and lunged again. "How dare you dodge me!" This time, he clamped Emily's wrist so hard that it felt like he meant to crush the bone. "Today, I'm going to teach you a lesson you won't forget!"
Emily struggled with all her strength, her nails raking bloody lines across Maurice's hand. Her gaze then darted to the coffee table, fixing on the fruit knife left there from lunch.
In a split second, she freed her other hand and snatched it up.
Maurice froze. He stared at the blade pointed at him, disbelief written on his face.
Emily's voice was chillingly calm as she said, "Let go."
Maurice roared in anger, his bluster masking the fear underneath. "Don't you dare! You touch me, and you're finished! I'm your father!"
Instead of loosening his grip, he squeezed Emily harder, trying to rip the knife from her hand.
But as he leaned in, Emily flicked her wrist.
Immediately, the blade sliced through the air, leaving a sharp red line across Maurice's arm.
Blood gushed out of his skin in an instant.
Maurice gasped in pain, staggering back as he clutched his wound in shock. "You… You're insane!"
Unbothered, Emily tightly gripped the knife and advanced on him, step by step.
Terrified by the unyielding resolve in her eyes, Maurice stumbled backward again and again until his back hit the cold wall, leaving him nowhere else to retreat.
Emily stood before him, her voice cutting like a verdict.
"Mr. Holton. Maurice just tried to stop Mrs. Holton from leaving the country, and they fought."
The breathing on the other end of the line suddenly grew heavy. "Did he lay hands on her?" Gabriel's voice carried a dangerous edge.
"Yes, but Mrs. Holton cut him. She also made it clear she's done with the Sterling family."
Gabriel's knuckles tightened around the phone, his veins popping out.
How dare Maurice lay his hands on Emily!
"Got it."
Gabriel ended the call and turned to Roman, who had been in the middle of a report. Then, he expressionlessly said, "Pull out every dime we've invested in the Sterling family. Kill every project they're riding on. Tell the banks to collect their debts."
Roman froze. That would push the Sterling family to collapse overnight.
Nevertheless, he nodded. "Got it."
Gabriel's gaze then drifted to the endless darkness outside the window. His voice was devoid of warmth as he said, "And Cole..." He paused for a beat, then delivered the order in two cold, cutting words, "Cripple him."
